FRANKIE’S FAVOURITE EATERIES

I can’t tell you how many people have told me I had to try Linny’s. It’s near us on the Ossington strip, tough to get a table, and very trendy right now.
You walk in and there’s a super sexy little bar to the right — perfect for a cocktail and it seats maybe six to eight people. The restaurant itself isn’t huge, but they manage to fit a lot of people comfortably. Everything is beautifully designed and the space is gorgeous. I was impressed right off the bat.
Now the food… the food… the food. I won’t make you wait — this place is awesome.
It’s Friday, so I start with the challah bread, which comes with a butter and jam mix, pickles, sauerkraut, and a nice green pickled tomato (almost like they just went full Starsky’s and grabbed the homemade stuff from the corner 😉).
We ordered a great salad and the best potato dumplings I’ve had in years, with a mushroom-style sauce that was fantastic. The wine and cocktails are great — like many places on Ossington — but somehow this place feels a little different.
Let’s also thank them for not keeping a tank or bathtub full of carp. Nobody really likes carp… do they?
For mains we had three dishes: the fried chicken, the steak, and the pastrami. The fried chicken might be the best I’ve had all year. The steak was excellent and the pastrami was perfect.
To be honest, the only thing I’d probably skip next time is the fried green beans. But the fries and the sides that came with the meats were great.
We skipped dessert and headed over to Summer’s Ice Cream in yorkville for ice cream instead.
Let’s just say that now that summer is around the corner and I’ll be walking the Dundas and Ossington strip more often, that bar — and that chicken — are something I’ll definitely be coming back for.
Linny’s, you’re a real gem. This place feels like it’s on its way to becoming a Toronto institution for many years to come.
TECH SPOTLIGHT

Alexa just got a lot hungrier (and smarter)
Ordering food might soon feel less like tapping through apps and more like chatting with a very efficient server. Amazon has rolled out a new update to Alexa+ that lets you order meals through Uber Eats and Grubhub — all through a natural, back-and-forth conversation.
Instead of scrolling menus, you can now say something like, “I feel like Italian,” and Alexa+ will guide you through restaurant options, menu items, and customizations. Want to swap your pasta, add dessert, or suddenly double your order? Just say it — no restarting, no clicking around.
Once your accounts are linked, Alexa+ can even pull in your past orders, making it dangerously easy to reorder your usual (you know, just in case you didn’t feel like cooking… again). At the end, it summarizes everything in your cart — prices, items, the whole deal — before you confirm.
Right now, the feature is rolling out on devices like the Echo Show, but it hints at something bigger: a future where AI handles everyday tasks in a more human way — from food delivery to groceries to travel planning.
Of course, AI and food ordering haven’t always been a perfect combo (some chains have had… memorable mix-ups), but Amazon seems confident that conversational ordering is the next step.
So next time you’re deciding what to eat, you might not open an app at all — you might just talk it out. 🍝📦

WORD OF THE WEEK
Genteel
What It Means
Genteel means “of or relating to people who have high social status” and can be used as a somewhat old-fashioned synonym of aristocratic. It can also be used to describe something with a quietly appealing or polite quality, as in “genteel manners.”

FRANKIE’S SONG OF THE WEEK
One of my faves.
100 WEEKS OF POSITIVE MESSAGES
Frankie did 100 days of positive messages 3 years ago. He wanted to center them around mental health and positivity. We will post them each week for 100 weeks.

65/100
“The beginning of the work week, the responsibilities and boringness that comes along with today. Do you get the Monday blues ?
Tlike to liven it up and get the week started on a fun note.
We throw dinners and parties on Mondays. It is an easy night to get people together because most people don't have plans on a Monday.
Get yourself some pizza dough and sauce, steaks or a few pierogi, invite a couple friends over and get the Lionel Richie lined up.
This way you set the tone for a great and lively week and even look forward to Mondays.
Make Mondays great again!
See you tonight ;)

🧠A Weekly Dose of Psychology You Didn’t Know You Needed 🧠
Hi everyone! I’m Maya, I hold an Honours Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science and Psychology (basically, I can analyze both a crime scene and your overly complicated coffee order). I’m also an incoming Master of Arts candidate in Counselling Psychology, which means I spend a lot of time thinking about how the human brain works, and why it sometimes does the exact opposite of what we want it to do.
Psych Fact #41: Your brain thinks you’re more noticeable than you actually are.
Ever felt like everyone noticed your mistake, your awkward moment, or something slightly “off” about you? That feeling has a name: the spotlight effect.
Your brain is the main character of your own story, so it naturally assumes other people are paying just as much attention to you as you are. In reality, most people are too busy thinking about themselves to notice the small things you’re worried about.
Studies show that people consistently overestimate how much others observe their appearance, behavior, and slip-ups. What feels obvious to you often goes completely unnoticed by everyone else.
So that moment you keep replaying in your head? Chances are, no one else even registered it.
A little reminder your brain might need: the spotlight isn’t nearly as bright as it feels.
Until next time,
Maya 🧠✨

CHRIS’ CORNER
The NBA Playoffs are Upon us!

Okay, so we've got a couple more days of regular season, and then there is the play-in round, and then finally the playoffs proper will begin.
But, in essence, the playoffs are nigh and they promise to be fascinating this year. The Toronto Raptors - your Toronto Raptors - are finally back in the dance. That in itself is cause to celebrate.
Finishing with a winning record and hopefully putting on a good performance in the franchise's first postseason appearance since the NBA Bubble year is more than was predicated by most.
Although, it should be noted that Chris' Corner was bullish on the Raps from the outset. Just check out the October 2025 column with the headline The Raptors Will Be Good This Year if you doubt me: https://sfd-weekly.beehiiv.com/p/sfd-saturday-morning-weekly-91
On that note, the Raptors May or may not win a playoff series this season. And that's okay. This is a growth year and sometimes losing now leads to winning later. Although, we would very happy to see a bit of winning now as well.
Other stories I’ll be very interested in for the NBA Playoffs . . .
Can the Denver Nuggets and Nikola Jokic win another title to go with the 2023 championship?
Can Canadian superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and his Oklahoma City Thunder cohorts repeat?
Are the San Antonio Spurs good enough to skip the pain of losing in the playoffs and go straight to winning a championship?
Can anyone in the East best the Boston Celtics in a seven-game series?
Can Los Angeles Lakers stars Luka Doncic and Auston Reeves return in time to help LeBron James make a deep playoff run?
Finding out the answers is going to be quite entertaining.
That's it for me! Ciao for Now!
