FRANKIE’S FAVOURITE EATERIES

This week I had the chance to meet a friend for what was supposed to be an after work drink at Mother which is a super cool cocktail bar on Queen West, unfortunately I got there a little early and it wasn't yet open so we decided to head up the street to what has become the trendiest street in Toronto, Ossington. 

We went to Mamakas, and if you haven't tried it, it's by far one of the coolest restaurants in the city. Thanos, the owner, popped by to say hello after I called him out on my Instagram (or maybe because he owns it and does stuff there? I've got such an ego 🤦‍♀️) and what can I say, the food, the service, and the ambiance did not disappoint as usual. 

We sat outside, had a glass of Rose' or two ;) (because I was feeling nostalgic about being in France recently), we shared these Greek cheesy fried stuff patties, had three or four dips and shared the souvlaki stick, which I loved, it's served with tzatziki and the skewer has really nice pepper and onion on it that give it the flavours of the old school Euro style. I loved it. 

Mamakas is a staple for me, I love it, the food is great, I love the street and I love that area.

MOVIE REVIEW

I have to start this off by saying that I’m a huge Brandon Lee fan. So I do refuse to watch the reincarnation of “The Crow”. And this is not any disrespect to the talented cast and crew of the new version.

Bill Skarsgård is beyond talented; but it’s impossible to remake a classic. I remember watching the late great Brandon Lee, and saying this is his role. A breakout performance. And then I remember his untimely passing. And I thought of his father, Bruce. Brandon passed away at the young ago of 28, and his father passed at 32. Two beautiful souls gone before they needed to be.

Back to the original movie…it blows me away. It is such a sad, yet amazing play on how life can kick you; but you can hit right back. Watching Brandon play Eric Draven, with such a passion that emotes beyond the movie makes me think about life and lives lost.

Eric is literally the avenging angel, guided by the Crow to make the wrong things right. Justice is served in the most amazing way. The real bad people are treated as such. I’m writing this because the new version can’t do the original the justice it needs. At the end of the day, love finds us all. And the original makes this clear. If you watch the latest version, please message SFD, and tell us the latest is the greatest!
