FRANKIE’S FAVOURITE EATERIES

Nirvana in Mississauga, you've 🫵 got a run for your money when it comes to best Indian.
Let me take you back to last week. For the tennis fans out there, I knocked off the Necker Cup—yes, Richard Branson’s island tennis matches. Good food, great parties, and the chance to network with some of the coolest people I will likely ever meet, and watch one of my favourite tennis players play against pros and amateurs. Nick Kyrgios, Thiem, and even Edberg were there hanging with us regular folk for a few days. Now let me tell you, nobody parties like Nick. Thank you again for the invite, GREG O 🫵.
Now, this is a food blog, and that’s why I mentioned Nirvana and Indian food. When we were returning our catamaran to the port in Nanny Cay, we stumbled upon Omar’s — Omar’s BVI. I would go back to the BVIs just for Omar’s. I had to tell the chef three times how much I liked his food. We had some of the best Indian food ever—can you believe it—on that little island? The paratha bread was likely the best I’ve ever had (next to Sash). The palak, the chicken masala, and the baingan bharta were off the charts, but the winner—the Lamb Vindaloo. < O MY GOD! > I can’t tell you what a nice surprise it was to have such great food that night.
If you’re even an hour from Nanny Cay or in the BVIs, try this place. It’s not sexy, it’s not where you’ll be taking your fancy in-laws, but it’s the kind of place where you get a Kingfisher or Carib, grab some insane Indian food, and head back to your little sleeping quarters and doze off for 10–12 hours. Amen 🙏!
TECH SPOTLIGHT

Just when you thought Hollywood couldn’t get any more dramatic, Paramount showed up with popcorn and a $108.4B hostile bid to snatch Warner Bros. Discovery away from Netflix. Yes—full telenovela energy.
Paramount’s offer goes straight to WBD shareholders and arrives $18B richer than Netflix’s deal, basically saying, “Don’t text him back, we can treat you better.” Netflix’s proposal only covers WBD’s studios + streaming, while Paramount wants the whole empire—networks and all.
Of course, regulators are already sweating. Netflix merging with HBO-sized power was already raising antitrust eyebrows, and a Paramount–WBD combo isn’t exactly subtle either.
Bonus drama:
Paramount’s bid is backed by the Ellison family, RedBird Capital, and a casual $54B in bank debt.
Netflix owes WBD $5.8B if their deal collapses. WBD owes Netflix $2.8B if they walk away. Basically: breakups are expensive.
The fight for Warner Bros. has officially entered the cinematic universe. Grab your snacks—this saga is far from over.

FRANKIE’S SONG OF THE WEEK
I just love this time of year when they start to play this one.
100 WEEKS OF POSITIVE MESSAGES
Frankie did 100 days of positive messages 3 years ago. He wanted to center them around mental health and positivity. We will post them each week for 100 weeks.

“Do you have them? I think we all do.
I have found that they come and go.
It’s easy to act like nothing bothers you, but we all have little things that can make us crazy and ultimately create some fears.
I’m surprised when someone notices something that I thought was so miniscule, yet that person thought it was this giant massive obstacle.
And that’s just it.
I would not disregard someone’s opinion or fears but by shining too much light on a problem, it can make things worse.
Being able to push someone along without highlighting their faults is a skill and can really help them get over a hump.
You’re not an all-star for constantly pointing out a person’s flaws, you’re an all-star for pointing out their strengths.
Don’t forget tiobe good to the people who want you to be successful or get better. The people who see something in you and carry you when you’re down.
Those are the special ones.
To my brother David who turned 40 this day, with a 6-year difference, there really was nothing to fight about. You’ve always been much wiser than me and you’re probably the hardest guy in the world to impress. I love you so very much and you have always been a wonderful friend. We have shared tons of great memories together and hopefully make many more.
If there is one guy, I know that can party harder than me, it’s probably you. Well, actually, there is another guy, Adrian Belli, he kills us both but you’re up there.
Happy Birthday Bro, love you.
Now let’s celebrate with some luksusowa.
Do you like to party?

🧠A Weekly Dose of Psychology You Didn’t Know You Needed đź§
Hi everyone! I’m Maya, I hold an Honours Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science and Psychology (basically, I can analyze both a crime scene and your overly complicated coffee order). I’m also an incoming Master of Arts candidate in Counselling Psychology, which means I spend a lot of time thinking about how the human brain works, and why it sometimes does the exact opposite of what we want it to do.
Psych Fact #23: Fear isn’t just a warning system — it’s a learning system.
We usually think of fear as something we’re supposed to “get rid of,” but the brain actually uses fear to teach us what matters. When something scares us, the amygdala fires up, tagging that moment as important. That’s why you remember the things that shook you more vividly than the things that were “just fine.”
Fear also does something wild:
It sharpens our focus, boosts memory, and pushes us to pay attention to details we’d normally ignore. It’s your brain’s way of saying, “Hey, this moment might shape you — stay alert.”
And the cool part?
When you face something scary and come out okay, your brain stores that too. That’s how resilience gets built: one “I did it anyway” at a time.
So if something in your life is making your stomach flip, it doesn’t always mean stop. Sometimes it means you’re standing right at the edge of growth.
Until next time,
Maya 🧠✨

Did Canadian Fans Get Shafted by FIFA? Yes and No
There has been much ado about the FIFA World Cup draw and subsequent scheduling of matches.
I did a winners and losers column 24 hours after the draw, specifically on the groups and draw ceremony, and read other scribes’ pieces on the schedule.
Many are lamenting the lack of huge games that will be held north of the border and they would technically be accurate.
The potential to see England-Croatia, Germany-Ecuador, or even France-Norway was there. But those huge matches ended up going to our border-sharing neighbours. Also, why not have Canada’s group split their time between Toronto and Vancouver?
That would give a couple of decent matches to both cities with a solid UEFA qualifier being added to Group B in the spring.
Instead, there is Belgium against New Zealand in Vancouver, Ghana against Panama and Senegal versus a UEFA qualifier in Toronto. The levels of
But, it’s not all doom-and-gloom in terms of big matches for Canadian fans.
Vancouver at least gets two Canada matches as they host Qatar on June 18 and Switzerland on June 24. Should Les Rouges end up topping Group B, Vancouver will get them in the Round of 32 match and potentially in the Round of 16 as well.
Those are the best matches in Vancouver when considering the full tournament. Across the country, things are slightly better from an overall standpoint.
Should a certain boot-shaped nation qualify from the UEFA playoffs, they will be in Toronto against Canada on June 12 to open the tournament. Then if that boot-shaped nation happens to finish first in Group B, they’ll be in Vancouver for the knockout rounds.
Toronto also gets Germany-Cote d’Ivoire on June 20, which should be solid from a neutral fan standpoint, plus the Croatian population (which is quite large and proud) can see their squad put on a footballing clinic against Panama on June 23.
Plus, Toronto could see one of England or Croatia versus one of Colombia or Portugal in their Round-of-32 match-up. That’s a very good knockout round tilt no matter which of those teams makes it (barring something ridiculous happening in the group stage).
So, while on first glance it appears the Canadian host cities where “shafted” per say, they still have plenty of actual and potential high profile matches to enjoy.
Now, how do I get my hands on some tickets?
