FRANKIE’S FAVOURITE EATERIES

Have you been?

I live near the Ossington Strip in Toronto so I can be found on having pho, ice cream, or in one of the weird candy shops there often. Many many years ago I begged a friend to buy a building with me on Ossington (Farsh 😡), probably in 1998 when I first got my real estate license. I was convinced it would become a cool street. It's has! We didn't buy... shucks.

If you're from Paris I would compare it to the Marais ish and if you're from Miami I'm talking Wynnwood.

Back to the food. From the guy who brought you mamakas, which is another great Greek spot just across the street called Kookla (Also Greek). I called Thanos (the owner) before heading there and he recommended the pikelia. It's a great little plate with all the great meats on their menu. Delicious.

The menu has been tweaked and changed but all the classics are there. The dips were great, the bread was delicious and we had a few other things .

I can never remember what wine I had but I remember if they were good and this Greek wine was great. If you can't get a table at Mamakas or if you just want to try something with a slightly less taverna feel then I would definitely try Koukla.

Two SFD thumbs up....

TECH SPOTLIGHT

Wait… people actually use Facebook Dating? 👀

Believe it or not, they do! Meta recently shared that Facebook Dating now has 21.5 million daily users across 52 countries — including nearly 2 million between the ages of 18 and 29. It’s not quite up there with Tinder or Bumble, but it’s making quiet progress.

The appeal? Facebook Dating doesn’t lock your “best matches” behind a paywall or make you buy digital roses like some other apps do. It’s completely free — though, let’s face it, Meta’s still getting its cut through data collection.

So while the idea of finding love on Facebook might still raise a few eyebrows, it seems the platform is slowly winning back a younger crowd. Maybe it’s nostalgia, or maybe we’re all just tired of paying for love.

An oldie but a goodie

100 WEEKS OF POSITIVE MESSAGES

Frankie did 100 days of positive messages 3 years ago. He wanted to center them around mental health and positivity. We will post them each week for 100 weeks.

I know what you’re thinking.

When is Frankie going to talk about his favourite food?

This stuffed pocket of amazingness is fantastic in a bowl of beautiful red borscht.

It is incredible pan fried with a touch of sauteed onions and sour cream.

Some people deep fry them and others just boil them and sprinkle a little salt and pepper on them.

Having comfort food and things that make you feel good are good for the heart and soul.

I love pierogi, I think they’re good for my brain. Maybe not so much for my mid section but I’m convinced they are good for my mind.

Find things you love and do them. Life is meant to be enjoyed.

I hope you have a great weekend with people you love, food you love, and lots of laughter.

Cheers to friendships and pierogi!

🧠A Weekly Dose of Psychology You Didn’t Know You Needed 🧠

Hi everyone! I’m Maya, I hold an Honours Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science and Psychology (basically, I can analyze both a crime scene and your overly complicated coffee order). I’m also an incoming Master of Arts candidate in Counselling Psychology, which means I spend a lot of time thinking about how the human brain works, and why it sometimes does the exact opposite of what we want it to do.

Psych Fact #18: Procrastination isn’t about being lazy — it’s about avoiding emotions.

When you put off a task, it’s usually not the task itself you’re avoiding — it’s the uncomfortable feeling that comes with it. Psychologists call this emotion-focused procrastination, where your brain delays something to escape anxiety, self-doubt, or even boredom.

The short-term relief tricks your brain into thinking it worked (“I feel better now!”), but the stress comes back stronger later. That’s why procrastination often feels like a cycle you can’t break — because your brain is rewarding you for avoiding discomfort, not for getting things done.

The real fix isn’t forcing motivation; it’s managing the emotion underneath. Try asking yourself, “What am I actually avoiding feeling right now?” It might be fear of failure, perfectionism, or even overwhelm. Once you name it, the task itself often feels a lot smaller.

So next time you catch yourself scrolling instead of starting, remember — you’re not lazy, you’re human. Your brain just needs a little emotional honesty before it gets to work.

Until next time,
Maya 🧠✨
