FRANKIE’S FAVOURITE EATERIES

Last weekend I ended up at a wedding near Quebec City with my mom. I know what you're thinking POUTINE :) Yep, we did some.

The first was at a cute pub called Dix 93 in the city of St Maxime. This pub was awesome, and we got lucky to get a seat by the bar. We ordered a brie cheese appetizer (which mom loved) and of course the poutine. This one had the curds but not the traditional gravy but a BBQ sauce. The food was great, but the band was the highlight, it was so fun!

The night after the wedding my mom and I decided to check out the Charlebois region east of Quebec making it all the way to Baie Sainte Paul. We had a glimpse of Mont St Anne (which I've skied) and Le massif (which I haven't) and landed at the Baie. It's a very cute little town and I regretted not stopping in the town opting for a poutine at Chez Mag (a roadside spot similar to Webers) which was great. The town was sure to have pulled/stewed meats with delicious flavours that I was craving. Let's say Chez Mag was a BIG win. But the best part of being all that way east was the fall colours and of course spending the weekend with mom.

After spending so much time in Quebec, I think I need to head to center street deli for a pastrami 💡

By the way, did you know you can hop on a massive Cruise ship from the Quebec City port? Yes, the huge ones hitting Caribbean ports all from Quebec, who knew?

TECH SPOTLIGHT

Wow! What a fun and engaging app that takes a photo of your face and a description of your body and makes videos based on things you prompt it to do.

It is very believable.

I sell office equipment (Printers, laptops, Photocopiers, phone systems and IT services like Zoom licenses, AWS etc) for Busys.ca and Integr8mps.com

Bbbbuuutttt, mostly I've been doing videos with myself doing ridiculous things around photocopiers. Here are a few examples.

Tech is moving so fast. How fun!

WORD OF THE WEEK

Etymology

What It Means

An etymology is an explanation of a word’s history—that is, where the word came from and how it developed.

100 WEEKS OF POSITIVE MESSAGES

Frankie did 100 days of positive messages 3 years ago. He wanted to center them around mental health and positivity. We will post them each week for 100 weeks.

There are times in life when you have to admit you didn’t do the right thing.

Some people so fiercely protect their opinions that they cannot see the other side of an argument. I think this can adversely affect their mental health and yours.

While I think it’s good to be headstrong when you believe in something, it is also great for the brain to say “ wow ! I was wrong, I didn’t see it that way, thank you for clearing and changing my mind.”

Being able to evaluate yourself as if someone else is looking at you is good for your soul. Letting our protective shield down is good for everyone around us.

I’d love to say to some people. “Can you become more huggable ?”

Whether it’s a friendship, a romantic relationship or a work situation there are always two sides to a story.

I once heard that there are a few countries in the world that don’t even have “I’m sorry”in their vocabularies ? Is that possible ?

Learning something new is one of the most captivating experiences especially as we get older and less things excite us.

Here is a Japanese proverb that I enjoy.

猿も木から落ちる or Saru mo ki kara ochiru, which translates to EVEN MONKEYS FALL FROM TREES.

Have a lovely day.

I hope you make a few mistakes, this where the fun begins.

🧠A Weekly Dose of Psychology You Didn’t Know You Needed 🧠

Hi everyone! I’m Maya, I hold an Honours Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science and Psychology (basically, I can analyze both a crime scene and your overly complicated coffee order). I’m also an incoming Master of Arts candidate in Counselling Psychology, which means I spend a lot of time thinking about how the human brain works, and why it sometimes does the exact opposite of what we want it to do.

Psych Fact #16: Cleaning your space can actually trick your brain into feeling more in control.

When life feels messy, it’s not uncommon to feel a bit overwhelmed — and here’s why. Research shows that cluttered environments subtly increase cortisol, the stress hormone, making your brain feel like it’s juggling too many tasks at once.

But here’s the interesting part: doing something as simple as tidying your desk or organizing a drawer gives your brain a quick hit of predictability and mastery — two things it loves. That sense of control, even over something small, can calm your stress response and boost your focus.

It’s not really about having a spotless space — it’s about reminding your brain that you’ve got this. So if you’re feeling stuck or frazzled this week, maybe start by cleaning your space. Sometimes the easiest way to declutter your mind is to start with your surroundings.

Until next time,
Maya 🧠✨

CHRIS’ CORNER

Jays Uniting a Nation

The good vibes thanks to the Toronto Blue Jays run to the World Series are everywhere.

Not just in downtown Toronto or the 905, but throughout Ontario and beyond. As I wrote in a blog post earlier this week, the Blue Jays are truly Canada’s team (with all due props to the Raptors).

People from all walks of life, regardless of political affiliation, are sporting Jays caps, t-shirts, hoodies, and jackets as the positive energy is palpable.

My friend and former Ottawa Sun colleague Nathan Sager wrote about getting a fist bump and a “don’t worry, we’ll bounce back” from an absolute stranger after the Jays lost the first two games in the ALCS.

My sports group texts are lighting up with Jays chatter, the soccer families I’m with are all about the Jays, and there seems to be a distinct belief that the only Major League Baseball outside of the United States can get the job done against the defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers.

It’s a beautiful thing when a collective of millions is all pulling in the same direction emotionally and spiritually to will a group of athletes to a victory (or in this case four victories).

My deadline for this piece is ahead of Game 1 and will be published the morning of Game 2, so don’t get mad at me if the Jays lost the first one. In fact, don’t get mad at all. They have shown the necessary resilience to bounce back all season long, so trust them to do it again.

If they won, yay! That means only three more wins to go.

I’m going to leave this week’s Chris’ Corner short and sweet with the only message anyone wants to hear right now: Let’s Go Blue Jays!
