FRANKIE’S FAVOURITE EATERIES

It's Thanksgiving weekend in Toronto and what does that mean? Turkey, squash and gravyyyyyy :)

I didn't have a great resto this week to review so I thought I would chat about groceries. I was recently asked where my favourite places to shop in Toronto were. The truth is, we are an Instacart family but when I find time to get out there, here are a few spots where you can find SFD with a shopping cart.

Great polish shopping to be had at Starsky... anything and everything Polish can be found at this huge pickle, pepperoni, and pierogi emporium in Mississauga. If you're looking for something a little closer to Toronto, I would hit Roncesvalles and head to Benna. It’s a compact little store but you'll find all of the kefir you need ;) there.

I mean you can find me at two or three other places from time to time. The first is Summerhill Market in Bathurst or when I'm really feeling a fun shopping for groceries experience, I head to Fiesta Farms

FF is so great. The vegetables look not perfect in a perfect kinda way. The meats look super great and it has so many organic and unique salad options. In my opinion, Fiesta Farms is the best place to get great varieties of foods at decent prices in downtown Toronto.

The last place I love to walk around and find fun foods is T&T on St Clair.

TECH SPOTLIGHT

Tesla’s “Standard” Models Go Back to Basics — and the 2016 Price Dreams

Tesla’s new “Standard” Model 3 and Model Y are here — and while they won’t make your wallet sing, they might make it hum quietly. The pared-down versions start at $36,990 and $39,990, respectively, and are Tesla’s latest attempt to bring “affordable luxury” (emphasis on relative) back into the EV conversation.

Don’t expect bells, whistles, or even Autopilot. These cars skip heated back seats, fancy speakers, and the glass roof in favor of good old-fashioned manual adjustments. Think of it as Tesla’s minimalist aesthetic taken literally.

Elon Musk once teased a $25,000 Tesla — a dream now parked firmly in the “never gonna happen” garage. Still, these new stripped-down models could help Tesla regain momentum after a bumpy 2024 and fend off rivals like GM, Ford, and upstart EV makers all gunning for the middle market.

It’s a throwback to when Tesla promised a $35,000 Model 3 — only this time, you might actually be able to order it without needing a secret handshake.

REAL ESTATE SPOTLIGHT

2715 - 25 Telegram Mews ~ $519,000

If I was a real estate investor, I would say this next few years could be the best time ever to buy. Homes are at a discount of 25-35% off their highs in some areas, especially in the suburbs etc. When it comes to Toronto, the steals to be had are in the 1 or 1 plus den. Those types of units were so overbuilt over the years and are simply not moving and many single unit investors have fled for a while. The institutional investors would still find the money but if nobody is buying units, it's hard to get the bigger money to believe. Here is a little unit below at could go in the 4s which I've heard is happening...  Crazy when you think about it.

REAL ESTATE SPOTLIGHT - PT 2

930 Eglinton Ave East ~ $1,049,000

Leaside’s Hidden Gem!
Tucked in one of Toronto’s most beloved neighbourhoods, this charming semi-detached home in Leaside is full of surprises. With a separate basement apartment ready to bring in extra income (or host the in-laws in style), it’s ideal for both investors and families. But the real showstopper? An ultra-rare four-car garage — complete with water, sewer, and its own electrical panel — perfect for car lovers, weekend projects, or your dream workshop. Recent updates like a brand-new roof (2023) and legal front pad parking make this home as practical as it is full of potential. Don’t miss your chance to put your personal touch on this Leaside beauty — opportunities like this don’t come around often! 🚗🏡

OTHER POSH THINGS

Lady Gaga in London: A Feast of Mayhem and Magic

Lady Gaga stormed into London on the first UK stop of her Mayhem Ball tour—let's just say that she turned the O2 in London into a cathedral of beautiful chaos. And the crowd loved every glitter-drenched second (me included - I was in my element!)

She arrived on stage in a colossal red crinoline dress that opened to reveal a cage full of dancers. The elaborate red gown set a dramatic and theatrical tone for the concert and exceeded my expectations of what she would wear for her opening number!
We had a side view which was still fabulous, but how I would love to re-watch the show from the front row!

Gaga tore through nearly twenty years of anthems — from her breakout Just Dance to the newest smash The Dead Dance (Netflix’s Wednesday). For the latter, she surprised fans by bringing out the show’s rising stars Emma Myers and Evie Templeton, who floated onto the stage in ghostly bridal gowns before slipping into the choreography of The Dead Dance. This was a completely gasp-worthy moment!

It was more than an arena pop show — it was a theatrical manifesto, a confession of some kind. She journeyed through acts of good vs evil, identity and control.

In every costume change, Gaga showed that pop can be spectacle and message. She shocks, uplifts, provokes — and, last night in London, she delivered in full.

Mayhem never tasted so sweet. This concert is a MUST to experience!

FRANKIE’S SONG OF THE WEEK

This is a great beat...  Do you agree?

I'm not sure if I mentioned last week but there is a feature called Crossover that I've been using on Spotify to connect one song to another on Spotify that works great.

100 WEEKS OF POSITIVE MESSAGES

Frankie did 100 days of positive messages 3 years ago. He wanted to center them around mental health and positivity. We will post them each week for 100 weeks.

Everybody is entitled to one and it’s great for the brain.”

🧠A Weekly Dose of Psychology You Didn’t Know You Needed 🧠

Hi everyone! I’m Maya, I hold an Honours Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science and Psychology (basically, I can analyze both a crime scene and your overly complicated coffee order). I’m also an incoming Master of Arts candidate in Counselling Psychology, which means I spend a lot of time thinking about how the human brain works, and why it sometimes does the exact opposite of what we want it to do.

Psych Fact #14: Your brain can’t tell the difference between remembering and imagining.

When you vividly imagine something — like a future vacation or even how your morning coffee will taste — your brain activates many of the same regions it uses when recalling a real memory. That overlap can make imagined events feel strangely familiar later, which is why you might swear you “remember” something that never actually happened.

This phenomenon, known as source confusion, is one reason eyewitness testimony can get messy and why people sometimes recall events in ways that don’t line up with reality. But outside the courtroom, it has a cool upside: visualizing positive future experiences can make you more confident and motivated to achieve them, because your brain is already halfway convinced they’re real.

So go ahead and daydream — it’s basically mental rehearsal.

Until next time,
Maya 🧠✨

AFC Toronto Title Hunt Starts Soon

Casual sports fans in and around the city could (should?) be forgiven if they aren’t aware that the Northern Super League playoffs start on xx.

Not only is it the first year for the Canadian professional women’s soccer league, but the Toronto Blue Jays have captured the attention of the entire nation.

Still, with the NSL Final taking place at BMO Field on November 15 and AFC Toronto having already won the Supporters Shield by finishing first overall in the regular season, keeping an eye on the pitch is a must.

After all, AFC Toronto are looking to become the first ever winners of the Diana B. Matheson Cup and they’ve been playing some inspired football/soccer this year.

I was at the first ever NSL match in Toronto – also played at BMO Field – and the energy was fantastic (especially standing in the Supporters’ Section).

Then, I helped organize my daughter’s team to attend a match at York University where the girls were able to carry the pregame flags, be ball kids, and then get selfies and autographs from the AFC players.

It was a great time, AFC won 3-0, and all the fans – both casual and avid – really enjoyed themselves.

It’s those experiences, plus having interviewed AFC captain Emma Regan on my podcast, as well as having coach girls’ soccer for many years, that I think it’s so great to see a women’s league close to home young players can aspire to.

Regan noted during our conversation that they want to make the final at home and win it, but (so far) BMO Field has not been kind to AFC. They lost the inaugural match 1-0 (though they deserved better based on the game play) and then fell by the exact same score to Vancouver at a game that took place during the CNE.

Though, it can be said that maybe “third time is the charm” applies in this situation. After all, AFC Toronto has continued to improve their performances throughout the year and look to be peaking at just the right time.

So while the diamond has most of the city’s attention, don’t forget to take a peak at the pitch this fall as you could be missing something special.
