WE CRUSHED IT!

This past Monday George Pimentel, Spencer Miller, and I hosted the First Inaugural "Untucked" Golf Tournament. All our friends and sponsors came out for what was a gorgeous day on the beautiful Eagles Nest Golf Course.

This tournament in particular was benefiting the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto (CamH.ca) and it's my hope to do this every year. For many years before I got sick we hosted another great tournament for Parkholme school and for next year we will try to incorporate them again in some way.

I was a patient of CamH and never thought that I would need to use the system in that way. I just never believed it could be me. So, I have a new passion and that is minimizing the stigma around mental health issues.

Ok, back to the tournament, it was awesome. The whole thing came about 6 months ago when George said to me, let's do a tourney for CamH. I said OK. He said "Frankie, I'm not putting my name on something that isn't great, and you better not do your silly stuff all over the place". I said to George that I'll make it great, I'll act appropriately, and I will lean on everyone I know for something. And everyone did!

Oh, by the way, the name "Untucked" came from George because I'm always getting in Trouble at our golf club for having my shirt untucked. Great name George.

Ok, the day started gorgeous and sunny, we got there and trucks were pulling in with Flags, signs, food, table chairs, shoes and tons of friends and staff our Busys/Integr8 to help out :)

The golfers/sponsors then piled in registering and it started to come about. I then looked to my left and it happened, I thought maybe I was dreaming but Allen Frew (glass tiger) came up and said "who's in my foursome ?" and that was it. I knew we had done it ! (Thank you Spencer) The people kept coming, breakfasts were had , Rick Campenelli came in hot and did opening remarks and we were off. Gil from Triumph was golfing, we had some hockey players, head of industries and amazing donors there.

Mid way through the day I snuck out for a nap in the locker room while George continued on as he always does heckling people, tasting ice cream and being the most amazing host and partner I could have ever asked for.

Around 3 o'clock and I got a tap on my shoulder and it was AJ Lawson! AJ is one of the newest Raptors and a Toronto (Celebrity 2 - check). He said "I told you I'd make it. " (Thanks Prakash ;) Gooo Raptors 2025/26!

Now, this one was really keeping me on my feet. I met snow a few months ago at a lunch, I went up to him and started singing "lady with a red dress" and we hit it off right there. We exchanged numbers and continued texting. I hinted that I hoped he could make the tourney. Did he ever! We had a little clothing mishap ☕️👕 on the way in but we recovered. (Celeb #3 check).

Tourney is over, the boys are here so now how do I get them to sing? 👀 I beg lightly...

The idea behind this tourney was to have food stands with some food, eat a good lunch have a non traditional cocktail party and hearty appetizers with bands and fun in the evening. What happened? Exactly that.

We somehow convinced Allen to sing, he got up there and did "My Town" - it was awesome. I got up quickly after pulled Snow from the balcony and grabbed him and begged for "Informer". He said "what the ???" , nothing prepared , I said "come on 🙏". The Jamaicans (Rasta Phil's crew) got up and said we will jam behind you. Oooh baby ! Did he ever pull off "Informer" it was insane. Thank Darren AKA Snow.

We had Teddy the speech maker gets up and knock it out of the park thanking CamH, a fun and great speech and his Donation with the people from GFL was through the moon. Thank you for always supporting CamH and Me. I love you guys. PD, LP 😍😍🫵🫵

Anne-Marie Newton CEO of CamH got up and toasted us and told us about some of the great things going on at the hospital. Trust me when I say. Your dollars are being spent wisely and there is so much difference in just 7 years, it's truly remarkable.

Helicopter prizes came, gifts were handed out by Tyrone Edwards (from Etalk), the awesome food and cocktails were had and the night continued with Danny Fernandes, the Junior Miller Band, Roze, and Elio and Ferro doing amazing songs.... Our Dj played through the day, and we even had Live to Air with Tony Monaco and the hammer there doing their bit and even golfing. Let's just say that Tony needs a little work on his golf game.

We stayed longer than we thought, and the patio was still full of people well past 9pm enjoying a gorgeous evening in Maple (North of Toronto) and George looked at me and said, "Frankie, we pulled it off".

We received so many thanks and the celebs said to count them in for next year. Georgie even said to me he was proud. He said Frankie I'm involved in 700 events a year and I can tell you, this was one of the BEST ones.

How about that?

We did it!

If you would like to Donate to CamH please do and www.camh.ca and we hope to see you at Untucked 2026 🫵🙏

Thank you for reading.

The Race to Build a Real-Life Universal Translator

For decades, sci-fi fans have dreamed of the universal translator—a device that could instantly bridge any language barrier. Think Star Trek’s communicator or the Babel fish from The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. Well, we might not be quite at “talk-to-aliens” level yet, but Apple, Google, and Meta are all racing to bring that futuristic vision to life.

At Apple’s recent “Awe-Dropping” event, the star of the show wasn’t just the iPhone—it was the AirPods Pro 3, featuring Live Translation. Picture this: you’re in Madrid, asking for directions, and your AirPods whisper back the translation in English at the same time the local is speaking Spanish. It’s like magic, only powered by Apple Intelligence (and a new enough iPhone, of course). Even cooler? If both people are wearing AirPods, the conversation can be translated back and forth in real time—essentially giving you an instant interpreter in your ears.

But Apple isn’t alone. Google’s Pixel 10 phone now comes with Voice Translate, which not only translates live speech but even mimics the speaker’s tone (yes, you can sound like Jimmy Fallon in Spanish). Meanwhile, Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses will flash translations on your phone while you chat—so no more awkward “uh, what did they say?” moments at a café abroad.

Of course, the translation tech world isn’t just about tourist adventures. Companies like Pocketalk and Vasco Electronics, which make dedicated translator gadgets, argue that the real power of this tech lies in hospitals, schools, and workplaces—places where clear communication can be critical. As Pocketalk’s U.S. GM put it: “This isn’t about luxury tourism. This is about the intersection of language and friction, when a discussion needs to be had.”

One catch: Apple’s Live Translation is only rolling out in a handful of languages (English, French, German, Portuguese, and Spanish for now). Plus, EU users will have to wait a little longer thanks to Digital Markets Act regulations. (Looks like phrasebooks, Google Translate, and dramatic hand gestures aren’t going extinct just yet.)

Still, with Apple shipping nearly 18 million AirPods in just one quarter, chances are a lot of us will soon be testing out whether these earbuds live up to their sci-fi promise. Until then, the dream of seamless global conversation is closer than ever—just maybe leave Klingon off the wish list for now.

Here is a great one for the end of summer.

How do you see the glass ?

It really is a great question.

It all comes down to mindset.

Two people can go to the same place, do the same things and see the experience completely differently.

You can help change someone’s perception of the world with a few little words and tweaks.

Some of the luckiest people I know still feel that their glass is half empty. It really is shocking.

You can sit there and say that you are blessed or you can say you are cursed.

It is all up to you.

When you think about a situation and it was a bad one. My recommendation is to acknowledge it and move on believing that the next time will be better.

Having a half full mentality is extremely important but it’s a habit.

It is good for you and it is good for the people around you.

Your perception of a situation gives us eyes into your soul.

So,

Are you half full or half empty ?

YOU are in charge of your emotional gas tank.

🧠A Weekly Dose of Psychology You Didn’t Know You Needed 🧠

Hi everyone! I’m Maya, I hold an Honours Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science and Psychology (basically, I can analyze both a crime scene and your overly complicated coffee order). I’m also an incoming Master of Arts candidate in Counselling Psychology, which means I spend a lot of time thinking about how the human brain works, and why it sometimes does the exact opposite of what we want it to do.

Psych Fact #11: Your memories change every time you remember them.

Most people think of memory like a video recording, but it’s closer to a game of telephone. Each time you recall an event, your brain reconstructs it, and in the process, it can alter tiny details.

Over time, those small edits add up, so the story you’re absolutely sure about might not be exactly how it happened. Psychologists call this memory reconsolidation, and it’s why eyewitness testimony can be so unreliable in court.

The wildest part? Even imagining something vividly enough can sneak into your memory as if it really happened. So if you “swear” you remember that childhood event just like yesterday… your brain might actually be playing tricks on you.

Until next time,
Maya 🧠✨

UPCOMING SPORTS EVENTS

CHRIS’ CORNER

Hey, Coach! Thank You!

In case you missed it, this week was National Coaches Week (Sept. 15 to 21) in Canada. Okay, technically if you’re reading this on Saturday, there are a couple more days left to hit your socials, tag someone, and say #ThanksCoach.

Created in partnership by Canada’s national coaching organizations and certificate programs, the week was a chance for players, parents, and clubs to recognize their favourite coach or even multiple coaches.

Let’s face it, coaches come from all walks of life and can be incredibly positive influences on their charges.

Whether it’s as a life mentor teaching valuable skills that transcend sports, a person who instills the love and passion for a particular game or activity, or someone who knows how to help develop technical and tactical skills in a chosen profession.

Coaches are just as important as the players themselves, the referees, the club administrators, and anyone else.

In fact, they may be even more important because they are the ones passing down the knowledge that is essential to keep a particular game or sport alive through the generations.

I loved coaching both my kids’ teams over the years until it was time for someone else to do it. Seeing so many of the kids I coached still playing soccer warms my heart and I still cheer on everyone one of them.

If you’ve never coached and you want to give back to your community, pick a sport, take the coaching courses and get out there.

It’s great for the mind, body, and soul. I will always have those memories and know I’ve done good for others. The feeling is amazing.

Celebrate Your Fave Coaches!

If you get a chance, I recommend celebrating National Coaches Week by giving props to a coach or coaches over the next couple of days. Head to Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter) using #CoachesWeek and #ThanksCoach to celebrate your favourite coach or coaches.

And, of course, say “Thanks Coach” after practices and games - which hopefully the kids have already been doing their whole lives.

That’s it for me! Ciao for Now!
