FRANKIE’S FAVOURITE EATERIES

Timeless is all I have to say.

Shigeo is known as a godfather on the sushi scene in Toronto and he is still going strong. I recently joined a friend there after a 10 hiatus. Twenty years ago we had lunch there at least one day per week and when it comes to the decor and the food, not much has changed.

Shigeo (the chef) is a kendo fighter and has been practicing that more. His kids have taken more involvement in the business but the food is better than ever.

I have a new biz idea frequently although I have become better at saying no to things but I'm still convinced that they need to market their in-house salad dressing to the masses. It's insane. You can buy it when you leave the restaurant but if you love Japanese style salad dressings, i can't be sure if I've ever tried a better one.

Ginko was the first place I tried tofu agadashi, their tepanyaki table is super fun and their perfectly sliced sushi, sashimi, and traditional noodles are second to none in my opinion.

If you are near the Airport, Ginko is a best bet for that sushi craving you are having.

TECH SPOTLIGHT

YouTube Scores Big with Its First Exclusive NFL Broadcast 🏈📺

YouTube kicked off its first-ever exclusive global NFL broadcast last Friday, and let’s just say… it made quite the splash. Over 17.3 million viewers from more than 230 countries and territories tuned in to watch the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Los Angeles Chargers in São Paulo.

The game set a new record for YouTube, becoming the platform’s most-watched livestream ever. According to Nielsen, the U.S. alone had 16.2 million average minute viewers across YouTube and other platforms, with another 1.1 million AMA tuning in from outside the States. Not bad for a debut!

Of course, Netflix still holds the crown — its 2024 Christmas NFL doubleheader pulled in 24 million viewers — but YouTube isn’t sweating it. Why? Because it’s betting on its creator-driven experience to keep fans engaged. The broadcast featured a star-studded lineup of creators like MrBeast, Deestroying, Haley Kalil, and Marques Brownlee, plus a halftime show by Karol G.

And the fans? Well… opinions were split. Some loved seeing their favorite YouTubers in the spotlight, while others thought the commentary was a little, well… “cringe.” Either way, YouTube’s touchdown moment proves one thing: the streaming wars aren’t just heating up — they’re going full blitz.

WORD OF THE WEEK

Insinuate

What It Means

To insinuate something (especially something bad or insulting) is to say it in a subtle or indirect way. Insinuate can also mean "to gradually make (oneself) a part of a group, a person's life, etc., often by behaving in a dishonest way."

FRANKIE’S SONG OF THE WEEK

Back to school! What happened to Noah Kahan? Has he had his moment? I don't know but his songs resonate with me ..  Here's a beauty

100 WEEKS OF POSITIVE MESSAGES

Frankie did 100 days of positive messages 3 years ago. He wanted to center them around mental health and positivity. We will post them each week for 100 weeks.

#37

I am optimistic that I write this well because I got home a little late last night ;)

My wife has noticed that I like certain types of people around.

You can’t have a million friends, well , maybe you can on Facebook but with real people you have to pick wisely.

I started to notice one thing that is common amongst most of people I surround myself with , especially lately.

They are optimists.

Whether it is for pleasure, for friendship, for sports or for business. I like to surround myself with people who have that get up and go attitude.

I like people who don’t complain about not having it all, not having time or not feeling up to it.

If you’re not up for it, then that is fine for you, just don’t get in my way, I’d like to do things, lots of them.

I like being around my wife’s friends. Men tend to have egos and can’t describe their vulnerabilities, women don’t care as much. I find women to be more optimistic than men, I love that.

Optimism is not about having or wanting it all it, it is about knowing that you can achieve things and not weighing down those around you.

If you want to do something great for your mental health I would consider surrounding yourself with optimistic people, oh , and those that can take a joke.

Thank you to the optimistic people who were around me when I needed it.

🧠A Weekly Dose of Psychology You Didn’t Know You Needed 🧠

Hi everyone! I’m Maya, I hold an Honours Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science and Psychology (basically, I can analyze both a crime scene and your overly complicated coffee order). I’m also an incoming Master of Arts candidate in Counselling Psychology, which means I spend a lot of time thinking about how the human brain works, and why it sometimes does the exact opposite of what we want it to do.

Psych Fact #11: Your brain actually shrinks when you’re stressed.

Chronic stress doesn’t just make you feel overwhelmed, it can physically change your brain. Research has found that long-term stress can reduce the size of the prefrontal cortex, the part responsible for decision-making, focus, and emotional regulation.

What’s even stranger is that while the prefrontal cortex shrinks, the amygdala, the area linked to fear and anxiety, actually grows. This means stress can literally rewire your brain to make you more reactive and less rational over time.

The good news is that this isn’t permanent. Activities like exercise, mindfulness, and yes, even getting enough sleep can help your brain recover and rebuild connections.

So, next time you feel guilty for taking a break, remind yourself you’re actually giving your brain a workout.

Until next time,
Maya 🧠✨

CHRIS’ CORNER

Pools, Pools, and More Pools

It’s NFL season – yeah, it started last weekend – and that means a billion invites to fantasy pools, survivor pools, pick 6 pools, and any other pool you can think of.

I go with a couple of the most cost-effective options that are run by friends because I love the friendly rivalries that develop throughout the season and frankly enjoy the sport with or without the wagers.

Side note: I’m a Vikings fan, so the sport hasn’t always been so kind to me (hehehehe).

Back to the point of this column. Even a week into the season, new survivor pool invitations have come out – one a fundraiser for a youth hockey team being co-organized by my cousin, another from a small friend group.

So, of course, I jumped into those ones. There is also a Pick 6 Pool that a bunch of friends are in that I join in. But that’s it for me.

For those that don’t know, Survivor Pools are basically the same everywhere – with some slight adjustments here and there. You pay a set fee at the start of the year (say $10) and then pick a team each week to win.

You can’t pick the same team twice all season and if you lose, you’re out.

The last person left is the winner of the pool. Some pools allow players to buy back in once – meaning if they get knocked out in the first few weeks, they can pay again to join again (which means more winnings in the prize pool).

I never do that, I just see what happens – usually I can get a few weeks in before I pick a losing team, so I’m fine to be knocked out.

Other pools, like the Pick 6 pool, require picking against the spread and have both weekly winnings and end of season winnings as well. Basically, each week you pick six games against the spread and if you get all six right you win that week, but all participants get a shot to win (top 3 get prizes) by accumulating correct picks all season long.

Then there are the fantasy pools where you pick players and create a team that accumulates points week in and week out.

Some feature weekly head-to-head matchups where you take on another person’s team and the results go towards the final standings (or in some cases, playoffs). I’ve done these in the past in football, hockey, and basketball and they are the most fun because you can trash talk your buddies.

Others are full season points accumulation, so while the weekly points total matters in the overall standings, there isn’t as much emphasis on “winning the week” over an opponent. I’m less of a fan of these types of pools because it can become somewhat boring late in the season if your team isn’t great and you aren’t in the running to finish in the prizes.

If you’re interested in getting into a pool and haven’t done so before, here’s my advice: find some friends who are doing one, make sure it’s simple enough to understand and participate in, make sure it doesn’t cost a lot of money to get in, and enjoy the experience.

Or see online for some free ones offered by major sports networks to see if it tickles your fancy with zero risk.

That’s it for me! Ciao for Now!
