FRANKIE’S FAVOURITE EATERIES

Gigi Rome

Wow! The city of fountains and rooftops did not disappoint. Last week I met a few friends for a couple of negronis and dinner at Gigi in ROME.

Appetizer of eggplant lasagna-ish dish, with a bowl of tomatoes, basil, and light onions to start. Very good, very fresh.

Everyone had a pasta. I had the vongole, to my left was an a la vodka looking dish, a truffle spaghetti was ordered, and what looked like cod and some veggies. Everyone agreed, it was great.

Desert anyone? I always forget how massive the desserts are at GIGI, let's just say 4 people had the tiramisuuuu and we only got through half.

I guess I never realized how spectacular these rooftops are in Rome. They are super special, very fun, and so unique. I'm coming back, I think I need to rethink my Italian food rating from last week ;)

TECH SPOTLIGHT

Cha-ChingGPT 💸📱

Since its launch in 2023, ChatGPT’s mobile app has quietly become a money-making machine. How much, you ask? About $2 billion in global consumer spending so far, not too shabby for a chatbot that fits in your pocket.

This year alone, the app has already brought in $1.35 billion, which works out to roughly $193 million per month. To put that in perspective: last year during the same time, it was averaging just $25 million per month. Talk about a glow-up.

Downloads are skyrocketing too, with nearly 690 million installs worldwide. India leads the way in sheer downloads, while the U.S. tops the spending chart, with Americans shelling out an average of $10 per install. Globally, that figure sits at about $2.91.

Takeaway? The app store isn’t just a place for games and weather widgets anymore, it’s a serious driver of the AI economy. And ChatGPT, at least on mobile, is very much the one to beat.

REAL ESTATE SPOTLIGHT

24 St Andrews Gardens ~ $4,999,000

What can I say? I've had many friends live on this street. It's quiet, it's cute, it's green, it's close to downtown, and it's a bit pricey but you get what you pay for here. Love it!

REMINDER

BTW, at the bottom of this NL is our invite to the www.untuckedgolf.com on Sept 15th. Frankie along with George Pimentel (Canada’s N#1 photographer) are hosting their first tourney to support CamH. George is the king of galas, so this little tourney is bound to have some tricks up its sleeve.

WORD OF THE WEEK

Behemoth

What It Means

A behemoth is something of monstrous size, power, or appearance. Behemoth (usually capitalized) is also the name of a mighty animal described in the biblical book of Job.

100 WEEKS OF POSITIVE MESSAGES

Frankie did 100 days of positive messages 3 years ago. He wanted to center them around mental health and positivity. We will post them each week for 100 weeks.

#35

I am optimistic that I write this well because I got home a little late last night ;)

My wife has noticed that I like certain types of people around.

You can’t have a million friends, well , maybe you can on Facebook but with real people you have to pick wisely.

I started to notice one thing that is common amongst most of people I surround myself with , especially lately.

They are optimists.

Whether it is for pleasure, for friendship, for sports or for business. I like to surround myself with people who have that get up and go attitude.

I like people who don’t complain about not having it all, not having time or not feeling up to it.

If you’re not up for it, then that is fine for you, just don’t get in my way, I’d like to do things, lots of them.

I like being around my wife’s friends. Men tend to have egos and can’t describe their vulnerabilities, women don’t care as much. I find women to be more optimistic than men, I love that.

Optimism is not about having or wanting it all it, it is about knowing that you can achieve things and not weighing down those around you.

If you want to do something great for your mental health I would consider surrounding yourself with optimistic people, oh , and those that can take a joke.

Thank you to the optimistic people who were around me when I needed it.

🧠A Weekly Dose of Psychology You Didn’t Know You Needed 🧠

Hi everyone! I’m Maya, I hold an Honours Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science and Psychology (basically, I can analyze both a crime scene and your overly complicated coffee order). I’m also an incoming Master of Arts candidate in Counselling Psychology, which means I spend a lot of time thinking about how the human brain works, and why it sometimes does the exact opposite of what we want it to do.

I know it’s only August, but the stores are filled with decorations and Halloween is creeping closer. This time of year, comes horror movies, haunted houses, and all the things that are supposed to terrify us. But here’s the real question: why do so many of us enjoy being scared?

🧠 Psych Fact #9: Fear can feel good when we know we’re safe.

Psychologists call this the “protective frame.” When we experience fear in a safe setting, like watching a scary movie or walking through a haunted house, our brains release adrenaline and dopamine. These are the same chemicals tied to excitement and reward.

The trick is, your body reacts as if there’s danger, but your mind knows there isn’t. That mismatch creates a rush, a mix of fear and pleasure. Some researchers even call it “benign masochism,” meaning we enjoy the thrill of unpleasant experiences as long as they’re under our control.

It’s also social: screaming with friends, laughing nervously, or grabbing someone’s arm bonds us together. Fear becomes fun when it’s shared.

So next time you’re hiding behind a pillow during a horror flick, remember: your brain isn’t broken, it’s wired to turn safe scares into joy. 👻

Until next time,
Maya 🧠✨

OTHER POSH THINGS

Plage Keller: Antibes’ Timeless Escape

For those who know me, summers usually mean the South of France — and a day at Plage Keller in Antibes is always an absolute must. Tucked into a picture-perfect cove on the Cap d’Antibes, the Mediterranean here sparkles like a cool glass of champagne on a hot day. This legendary plage has been welcoming sun-seekers since 1931, and it still holds that timeless allure.

This year, I met up with my friend Holli (the creative mind behind Sand Babes) at Plage Keller’s restaurant, Le César. The restaurant is practically glued to the sunbeds so that one can drift from plate to sea in seconds. It’s impossible not to revel in its relaxed charm — framed by the hypnotic backdrop of the Baie des Anges and a bronzed crowd sipping Aperol Spritz with enviable ease.

At Restaurant César, the food is as memorable as the setting: fresh fish, Provençal flavours, and desserts that linger like salt air. When the DJ begins to play, the mood shifts from Riviera languor to something a little more irresistible — the kind of soundtrack that makes you want to kick off your espadrilles and slap on some Huile Prodigieuse® Or by Nuxe (shimmer bronzer)

To enjoy both the restaurant and the turquoise cove, you’ll want to book a sunbed for the day. It’s the best way to experience Keller: dipping into the calm, enclosed waters between courses, shaded by an umbrella, the world slowing to Riviera pace.

The scene is classic South of France: just a handful of rows of sunbeds and parasols lined neatly on the sand and stretching onto the wooden jetties on either side, suspended just above the sea.

With every dip, bite, and beat of music, Plage Keller captures that timeless Côte d’Azur spirit — chic, relaxed, and effortlessly golden.

And while Keller is famed for its beauty, it’s also its legacy that endures. Its genteel atmosphere has long drawn an understated celebrity crowd — from Picasso and Fitzgerald to today’s quiet jet-set. Yet what truly keeps people coming back is simpler: pristine views, seamless service, and that sun-drenched ease that makes you feel, if only for a moment, like the Riviera belongs just to you.

The True FIFA Countdown Is On

The real countdown to the 2026 FIFA World Cup being cohosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States has begun.

With around 285 days left at the time this newsletter is published, and all the big European soccer leagues kicking off their 2025/2026 seasons, kick-off on the biggest World Cup final tournament in history is only 10 and a half months away.

It’s the first time in history that there will be three co-hosts as it’s more of a “regional” event than a single nation or dual-national festival of football. As well, for the first time ever there will be 48 teams in the final tournament, which commences on Thursday, June 11, 2026 in Mexico City.

Toronto’s BMO Field will be the site of the first ever World Cup match on Canadian soil on Friday, June 12, 2026 and is already guaranteed to feature Team Canada – against a yet to be determined opponent.

The reason this is the true countdown is because once those European leagues begin to lead into the tournament proper, it also means the final stretch of World Cup qualifiers is set to take place.

Already 13 teams have punched their ticket to the World Cup. These are Canada, Mexico, USA, Australia, IR Iran, Uzbekistan, Jordan, Korea Republic, Japan, Argentina, Ecuador, Brazil, and New Zealand.

The next international break is fast upon us running from September 1 to September 9, with European qualifying taking centre stage. Notable clashes include Netherlands-Poland on September 4, Turkey- Spain on September 7, Greece-Denmark and Croatia-Montenegro on September 8, and Serbia-England on September 9.

Of course, all the other big teams are in action, but each against very beatable opponents. Those mentioned offer up a touch of intrigue as anything could happen – even upsets.

Though general public single match tickets are yet to be made available, those wanting to ensure their spots at the World Cup can purchase hospitality packages that include tickets, pre-game festivities, special events, food and beverages, and more.

They’re not cheap though – the cheapest single match package begins at $2,500 per person and doesn’t begin to include everything you would want for $2,500 per person. However, to ensure what is often a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, this may be the best deal to get. Check out the packages at FIFA Hospitality.

That’s it for me for this week! Ciao for Now!
