SFD SATURDAY
MORNING WEEKLY 77

This one was a real surprise. We googled tacos and this popped in Wynnwood. Super cool menu and beautiful spot. Unfortunately, the place was empty, I'm not sure how long it has been around or if other Mexican places in the area have the cool buzz right now, but this place deserves it.

Tacology

This one was a real surprise. We googled tacos and this popped in Wynnwood. Super cool menu and beautiful spot.

Unfortunately, the place was empty, I'm not sure how long it has been around or if other Mexican places in the area have the cool buzz right now, but this place deserves it.

We were tempted to turn around and leave but am I ever happy we didn't.

THE FOOOD!

First of all, the waitress (Luisa) comes out with a tray of 6 HOMEMADE hot sauces and a few limes. I'm intrigued already.

She pops open the laptop-style menu and starts explaining the dishes, sending our selections straight to the kitchen from the same device she’s using to show us the options. She points out the best ones as she goes.

Appetizers arrive: one guac, one street corn, and a bean dish—served with plenty of nachos, of course.

Once the vinos, tipo chicos, ice teas and appetizers arrived she came back with the laptopy menu and asked for our mains. The kids got birria (awesome with sauce) tacos, a shrimp dish was ordered, a naked burrito and steak fajitas (best in my opinion).

The food was awesome. I know this place will catch on. It has to. There are plenty of ice cream places for dessert around the Wynnwood Walls area which you need to visit if you like that cool spray paint style art in Miami and of course tons of awesome restos have opened in that area including a favourite of ours called Pastis.

On another Toronto note. Do you remember Golden Thai on Church? It was my first try of Thai food over 25 years ago. Well, it sounds like we are about to get a new Filipino restaurant called Makilala in that same space. Sounds like the opening is a month or two away but let me tell you. I am excited. Stay tuned!

TECH SPOTLIGHT

📸 Instagram Meets Google: What You Need to Know Before July 10, 2025

Big news is coming to the world of social media and search—starting July 10, 2025, public Instagram posts from professional and creator accounts may begin appearing in Google search results. That’s right: your Reels, carousels, and carefully crafted captions could soon be showing up in Google, giving your content the chance to be discovered far beyond the app itself. While this update opens the door to greater visibility and reach, it also raises important questions about privacy, control, and how to optimize your Instagram presence for search engines.

Until now, Instagram has kept most of its content walled off from search indexing, using technical tools like noindex tags to prevent platforms like Google from pulling posts into their results. But with this update, Instagram is handing control over to you. If you have a professional or creator account, you’ll be able to decide whether your public content can be indexed by Google—via a simple setting in your privacy menu. Indexable content includes posts, Reels, videos, and carousels, even those dating back to 2020. Stories, private messages, and content from underage users or private accounts will remain excluded.

So, what does this mean in practice? If you allow indexing, your Instagram content could start appearing in search results when people Google relevant keywords—offering a fresh path to visibility and organic traffic. This is especially promising for creators, brands, and businesses aiming to expand their audience beyond Instagram. But with opportunity comes responsibility. Once a post is indexed, it becomes part of your digital footprint. That means it’s a good time to review old content, update outdated bios, and refresh your captions with keywords that align with your brand.

Optimising your Instagram for Google doesn’t have to be complicated. Start by making sure your profile is public and complete, with a clear bio, relevant links, and consistent branding. Use relevant keywords in your captions and bios, and take advantage of alt text to make your images more accessible and searchable. Engagement still matters, too—likes, comments, and saves signal value to algorithms, so encouraging interaction is always a smart move.

Of course, not everyone will want to make their content searchable, and that’s okay. Instagram’s opt-in setting lets you control what’s visible outside the app. Whether you choose to go fully public or stay more contained within your current audience, the key is being intentional about your digital presence.

WORD OF THE WEEK

Exemplary

What It Means

Something described as exemplary is extremely good and deserves to be admired and copied.

FRANKIE’S SONG OF THE WEEK

Here is a beauty to add to your playlist.

100 WEEKS OF POSITIVE MESSAGES

Frankie did 100 days of positive messages 3 years ago. He wanted to center them around mental health and positivity. We will post them each week for 100 weeks.

#28

Here are 9 little things I do daily for my mental health. I have realized that my mind likes to overthink and analyze etc. I think many of us are exactly the same and we need to do little things to keep the mind calm. I don’t want to do yoga for hours, take medication or talk to therapists etc.

1 - Walk 5:54 am.

I walk every day in the morning for at least one hour. I Love this time. I listen to great music and my ideas flow.

2 - breathe.

6 x per day 10 deep breaths.
My calendar on my phone goes off 6 times per day and reminds me to take 10 deep breaths and a glass of water. I always forget the water but never the breaths.

3 - Nap.

Every day for at least 40 mins. I nap in the gym, in my car and in my friends’ offices. By 1 pm every day I am thinking about where I’m going to nap. It is amazing and I feel like it gives me a second day. PHONE OFF. The trick is to toughen through the first few times where you feel like crap after your nap. Remember that you will feel like crap at the beginning for 30 seconds, but it is so worth it.

4 - Walk away.

I walk away from crap. If it doesn’t feel good or smell good, I simply walk away.

5 - Disconnect.

At night I take off my watch and turn off my phone completely. OFF. BYE BYE. OFF. NOT silent. OFF - I wake up around 5:50 without an alarm clock but my Casio ;) watch has an alarm and goes off as well. NO PHONE BY BED.

6 - Respect.

I believe that I don’t have the right to ruin your day, but I also believe that you don’t have the right to ruin mine. I am very clear about this.

7 - Let it go.

I try to let things go. Sometimes it takes longer than I hope but it really is a good skill to learn to move on. This is not just about letting go of something someone did to you, it is also about forgiving yourself for overreacting.

8 - Party!

I need it. I need to have fun every day. I think that we are meant to have fun, to laugh, to dance, to love, to be happy, and I believe you can do it in so many little ways.

9 - Wish well on others.

This is simple and I believe it from the bottom of my heart. When people around me are smiling, my world is better. I’m selfish.”

🧠A Weekly Dose of Psychology You Didn’t Know You Needed 🧠

Hi everyone! I’m Maya — I hold an Honours Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science and Psychology (basically, I can analyze both a crime scene and your overly complicated coffee order). I’m also an incoming Master of Arts candidate in Counselling Psychology, which means I spend a lot of time thinking about how the human brain works — and why it sometimes does the exact opposite of what we want it to do.

Welcome back! It’s week two of me dropping one unexpected, curiosity-piquing psych fact each week — no dry textbooks, no midterm flashbacks, and no pop quizzes (you’re welcome).

This week, let’s talk about trauma — but wait! Before you scroll away thinking it’s about to get dark and emotionally heavy, don’t worry. We’re keeping it light, hopeful, and maybe even a little uplifting.

🧠 Psych Fact #2: Your brain can be gently rewired by doing small, positive things — even something as simple as petting a dog.

When people hear the word trauma, they often imagine only the big stuff: catastrophic events, major loss, serious injury. But trauma can be sneaky — it’s not just what happens to us, but how our nervous system processes what happens.

Here’s the good news: the brain is wonderfully adaptable. Thanks to a little thing called neuroplasticity, small positive experiences — like going for a walk, journaling, laughing with a friend, or yes, petting a dog — can actually start to rewire the brain's stress response over time.

It's like giving your nervous system a series of gentle high-fives until it finally goes, “Okay, maybe the world isn’t always out to get me.”

So no, healing doesn’t always require a grand gesture or a dramatic breakthrough. Sometimes, it’s just about doing more of what makes your brain feel safe, seen, and a little less tense.

Until next time,
Maya 🧠✨

UPCOMING SPORTS EVENTS

CHRIS’ CORNER

Okay! Blue Jays!

“Really, how did that happen?”

That was the question I asked my buddy Curtis, an avid Toronto Blue Jays and baseball guy, when he mentioned they were in first place last week.

Now, having grown up in the 80s, I was always a fan of both our hometown Jays and the New York Mets – I made sure to have one of each of those old Baskin Robbins ice cream cup helmets.

Back then the Jays were growing into a World Champion, while the Mets were already one and had my favourite player Darryl Strawberry on the team (I still have my Rawlings signature Strawberry glove – in strawberry colour of course).

When time allowed for it, we all loved to play every sport and have a team to cheer for in every sport. Or in the case of tennis, favourite players.

But, as time went on, I had to put each sport in its proper order and space. Now, baseball is probably sixth on my list of favourite sports to play or watch.

Usually, I only take an interest in what’s happening in the Major Leagues after the fast-approaching all-star break. If the Mets and/or Jays aren’t doing well, then I’m barely paying attention the rest of the year.

And typically, at least since I stopped working at the Ottawa Sun in the sports department many moons ago, I only really get into it in late September and October.

When I heard the Jays were in first place in the American League East and had won 10 straight games to get there (the streak ended against the lowly Chicago White Sox on Wednesday), I was shocked.

Then I checked the NL East and sure enough the Mets are neck-and-neck with the Philadelphia Phillies for top spot.

So, yeah, I’m going to be keeping an eye on things a little earlier this year. Hopefully, my two teams will be there in the end and make it to the postseason. After all, there is something that is magical and nostalgic about baseball in the fall.

On that note, it’s always fun to see games in person, so a trip to the SkyDome (it will always be that to me) is definitely in order.

Let’s Go Mets! Okay, Blue Jays, let’s play ball!

That’s it for me! Ciao for Now!
