Park Hyatt Rooftop! Wow... I have been for drinks many times but this time I said let's have a bite. We got there and they couldn't find us a seat but by the time we went outside to check out the view (attached) they found us a seat. I have come many times for drinks, but this caught me off guard.

Wow... I have been for drinks many times but this time I said let's have a bite. We got there and they couldn't find us a seat but by the time we went outside to check out the view (attached) they found us a seat. I have come many times for drinks, but this caught me off guard.
We ordered three appetizers, the first being the burrata. It's comes with this flat hard long toast to put your burrata on which is topped with spicy peppers (kinda like the ones they sell at terroni) and a sweet salsa on the bottom. You put the burrata mixture on the cracker and bamm! It's a taste sensation.
#2 is the squash, honestly it was my favourite dish of the week. The squash comes on a nice plate in almost a scalloped potato style, it's served on a delicious light curry flavoured orangey-tangy sauce with some cilantro and other little greens, it's absolutely perfect. Negroni please!
#3 the tartare, the tartare! This tartare was so delightful, I'm a polish tartare purist but this one was different and great, it has these shaved little potato scraps on it and a hint of some je ne sais quoi. I like my tartare on bread, so I had to ask for some but let me tell you this tartare was a 10 out of 10. I did not expect to love this meal so much, I shared it with some super company and bumped into friends at 2 different tables, lucky me 😍😍.
Great night, great food, great laughs, I think this is the perfect spot to have a good meeting, a date night for dinner, or just a cocktail to start a night out.
Hyatt Rooftop, you are a Toronto gem.

🧠 Meta's AI Ad Makeover: From Mad Men to Machine Learning
Meta is rolling out a new AI-powered advertising system that could make Don Draper do a double take. By 2026, the social media giant aims to let businesses create entire ad campaigns with just a product image and a budget. Meta's AI will handle the rest—generating images, videos, text, and even determining optimal targeting on platforms like Instagram and Facebook.
This initiative is part of Meta's vision to build an AI one-stop shop where businesses can set goals, allocate budgets, and let the platform manage the execution. With over 3.43 billion active users, the potential reach is immense.
While this move could revolutionize digital advertising, it also raises questions about creative control and brand safety. As AI continues to evolve, the balance between automation and human touch in advertising will be a space to watch.

In my opinion this area is finally getting its real identity. I loved king west in the BUCA days but now it's just awesome. Here is a great one at the one.

FRANKIE’S SONG & QUOTE OF THE WEEK
I asked a mom and her son, who were sitting next to me at Mandy's on Ossington this Thursday, for their favourite song and favourite quote — and these were their replies. How good are they?

100 WEEKS OF POSITIVE MESSAGES
Frankie did 100 days of positive messages 3 years ago. He wanted to center them around mental health and positivity. We will post them each week for 100 weeks.

#23
“Is there something that you want to achieve? Start today.
Is there a goal that you dropped? Perhaps a workout goal you made on January 1st or a happiness goal. Start again today.
Is there a business you want to start? Start today.
Is there a dance you want to learn? Start today.
Is there a friend you want to reconnect with? Start today.
Is there a sport you want to learn? Start today.
Is there a recipe you want to try? Start today.
Is there something charitable you want to do? Start today.
Is there an apology you want to make? Start today.
Nothing comes without making that first step. You may look foolish, so what? Will you be happier with your new self 100 days from now if you start today? I suspect you will.
Start today and make little and medium sized micro steps towards whatever you want to achieve.
The older we get, the more often we have to adopt this mentality. If you are 80 and act 80 then you will be 80. If you are 80 but act like you’re 30 then you are 30. It is all between your ears.
If you expect something to happen overnight then you will be disappointed but if you believe that your goal is possible, and work towards it for 100 days, I can assure you that you will get there most of the time.
What do you have to lose?
If someone tells you it can’t be done, look them in the eyes, stare at them for a few seconds and say, “watch me”.
Start today!”

Closer Together? First Ladies & Full Circles
by Mala Rambharose
This was it. This was my moment. Former First Lady of Canada - Margaret Trudeau had just gotten offstage. Guests swarmed the lunch buffet and I found her sitting in the courtyard - alone. I thought, maybe she wanted to be alone, to gather her thoughts or come down off the rush of speaking to a room full of people. As gently as possible I asked if she was open to an interview for The Huffington Post sometime. She said, “What about now? My driver won’t get here for another ten minutes.”
And so began the most impromptu interview of my career (also...the first real interview). At the time her son Justin was running to be Prime Minister of Canada. As a University of Toronto dropout and a twenty-something writer, I was mostly attending this mental health conference for free food and to listen to professors from Harvard and Yale share their research on addiction. I had no idea I would be sitting with a Former First Lady - born the same year as my father- who was famous for partying at infamous Studio 54 and running off with the Rolling Stones.
Exactly ten years later…
Flipping through Instagram stories, I noticed an ad for Former First Lady of Canada - Sophie Trudeau’s new book, Closer Together. She would be speaking at an event in Toronto. For a moment, I fantasized about going…but the ticket price versus travel distance from my tiny apartment in Yorkville didn’t make it easy enough for a general sense of laziness to subside.
A few days later, a magazine invited me to a meeting on Queen West where they wanted to hold a fashion show. On this little adventure they mentioned having an extra ticket to Born For More the following morning! - where Founder Kathryne Mejias would be interviewing Sophie Gregoire Trudeau!
And all of a sudden…I was media. But this time around, Justin and Sophie were officially separated and he was resigning after a decade as Prime Minister.
The following morning was chilly and wet but – as usual - I was running behind and dashed out the door without a jacket (or umbrella!). There seemed to be a bunch of events happening on the Exhibition grounds that day so we parked -what felt like- a mile away from Liberty Grand. At least I remembered to bring a giant purse – though it didn’t do the best job at saving my phone from the mist.
Upon arrival there was a box of swag from one of the sponsors and a handful of Instagram-able photo-ops. Beyond the stage, the room was full of vendors of all kinds – women led businesses. There was food, clothes, personal training, essential oils, fortune telling, financial support. But the table most memorable to me was a custom jewelry line where you could make your engagement ring and wedding band into a number of other designs. I hadn’t met “the one” yet and these ladies were already re-branding their marriage/family history. AND I had never been engaged but now had a notebook and pen in my giant purse boasting “Divorce Is Simple”.
After visiting booths and interviewing a couple guests, it was time. Sophie Gregoire Trudeau took the stage. There was a stanchion by a row of ‘reserved’ seats in prime location. As the interview began I ducked into one of these special chairs – avoiding eye contact with security and organizers. The interview lasted about an hour. I waited on the edge of my seat for all the juicy details about the separation…and…First Lady secrets (to my disappointment). Sophie exclusively spoke about mental health – her studying attachment theory and coming back to her self-care practice (sad face emoji).
Awaiting my turn for the book signing I realized the security - whose gaze I was avoiding earlier- were now going to be my best friends. They were surprisingly organized and had fashioned a system that would protect Sophie while creating the maximum amount of content possible for such a short interaction. As my turn neared one security guard took my book, another took my phone, while the magazine filmed in the background. I told Sophie about my interview with Margaret ten years ago! “oh is that right? We still talk regularly,” she said. Then I asked for advice about my own memoir. “self-publish or go with a smaller publisher…in the US I went with a smaller publisher so they would have time for me…but DON’T give up!” she insisted…and I understood that if the First Lady of Canada signed with a “smaller publisher” then (maybe) I needed a tiny one.
Heading back to the car – so very far away - I realized we left the window open and the front seat was soaked. Climbing into the back, my giant purse now overflowing with swag and a signed copy of Closer Together flopped around lopsided. On the drive back I thought about how strange it is meeting two First Lady’s a decade apart from the same family…and wondered how many countries around the world have had such an occurrence. The sky was darkening and I was heading uptown for dinner at a friend’s place. Coming down off the adrenaline I started deeply regretting my lack of a warm jacket and umbrella. But at least I had my phone…with all the (surprisingly good) pictures…to an Instagrammer…the most prized possession.

CHRIS’ CORNER

Are you a Leafs fan or a hockey fan?
The headline asks a pertinent question. Also, one that has been brought up time and again through the generations.
It’s pertinent because the NHL playoffs don’t stop being played just because the Toronto Maple Leafs having been eliminated (again). And for the second straight year we have an Edmonton Oilers-Florida Panthers final.
In case you haven’t heard, Edmonton is attempting to become the first Canadian team since the 1993 Montreal Canadiens to win the Stanley Cup. That’s been enough for many of my buddies to care about the final and cheer on the Oilers as Canada’s team.
Still, there are many others who have moved on to baseball, or increased focus on the oodles of soccer competitions, tennis, or golf – often we play these sports as well as follow them.
Many of us NBA fans are more excited about the final match-up between the Oklahoma-City Thunder and Indiana Pacers that features four Canadian stars, including league MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (check out last week’s SFD newsletter for more on SGA).
Then there are those fans who believe it’s better to cheer for the team that beat the Leafs, in this case defending champion Florida, with the perception being that it’s more honourable to lose to the champs than anyone else.
These tend to be true hockey fans and not just Leafs fans, so they pick a team and enjoy the games.
Personally, I’m not a “hockey fan,” the only time I care about hockey is when it’s Team Canada or the Leafs in the playoffs, and not even enough to watch full games anymore. I probably won’t watch much, if any, of the Stanley Cup final.
Still, I wouldn’t mind seeing the Oilers win as I am Canadian and it would be nice for our Cup to be in our nation.
So, are you cheering for Edmonton, Florida, or who cares as it’s golf season in Ontario?
