FRANKIE’S FAVOURITE EATERIES

Sapore by Zafferano

This week I headed up to Woodbridge for dinner. If you're not from Toronto, Woodbridge is where all the Italians moved 40 years ago, north of the city. Their Ferrari dealership has been known to sell more Ferraris than anywhere in the world - true story I heard. You will see humble homes, but a Ferrari will be in the garage, not sure if it's an Italian thing or some really great marketers at that dealership, but there are a lot of them.

So, I was invited by a friend to chat about work and enjoy a great meal. Now this place has all the markings of a steak/Italian food upper cuisine spot, which is so typical of Woodbridge. It's got the white table cloths, the waiters look great and are VERY knowledgeable about their wines. My friend ordered a spectacular tasting bottle or two ;) and we ordered a few great appetizer trays full of cheese balls, fried mushrooms, and some delicious hot chili oils with bread to dip. DEE Li cious!

My friend came with his kids so they ordered the pizza, they are vegetarians and it was great. I had the black cod, it was fantastic, it came on a pillow of rice that had a touch of a kick to it, zesty almost, it was the best rice I'd had in a long time. The dessert came, an ice cream scoop with a coffee shot of some sort, perhaps it was off the menu but it was great.

If you find yourself north of Toronto and you're looking for a great meal, this place should be on your list to try for sure. For my friend, he's a regular.

🌟 Blaize’s Bold Leap into the AI Chip Game 🌟

Move over, big data centers—AI is heading to the real world! Blaize, an AI chip startup founded by ex-Intel engineers, is making headlines as the first AI chip company to go public in 2025. This California-based company is taking a different route than giants like Nvidia by focusing on AI chips for edge applications—think drones, security cameras, and even industrial robots.

With $335 million in funding from big names like Samsung and Mercedes-Benz, Blaize is betting on a future where AI chips make everyday devices smarter, more efficient, and even more secure. As CEO Dinakar Munagala puts it, “AI-powered edge computing is the future due to its low power consumption, low latency, cost-effectiveness, and data privacy advantages.”

While Blaize is currently a small player in the massive AI chip industry, its pipeline looks promising, boasting $400 million in deals, including a $104 million contract with a defense entity. Blaize’s public debut is a bold step toward scaling operations and showing the world how practical AI can change the game outside the confines of data centers.

As Blaize goes public, it’s a reminder that AI innovation isn’t just about processing power—it’s about making our everyday lives smarter and safer. Here’s to chips that don’t just crunch numbers but bring AI to the edge!

REAL ESTATE SPOTLIGHT

53 Lynnford Drive ~ $1,179,000

This area is changing. This area will not look like it does now in 20 years. Condos will be built, there will be new things happening, and a lot of money spent in this corridor. I'm not saying it's the greatest listing of all time. But if you want a nice little bungalow at a good price or somewhere to park a little money and/or throw in a tenant for 15 years. You won't be dissatisfied.

TENNIS TIP OF THE WEEK BY GRAND SLAM PETER

WORD OF THE WEEK

Secular

What It Means

Secular describes things that are not spiritual; that is, they relate more to the physical world than the spiritual world. The word also carries the closely related meaning of "not religious."

RECIPE OF THE WEEK

These Chocolate Toffee Chip Cookies taste just like a Skor chocolate bar in cookie form, with a perfect balance of creamy chocolate and crunchy toffee bits!

OTHER POSH THINGS

A Dreamy Escape to Cape Town, the mother city!

Cape Town is a city that captivates the senses and soothes the soul (and were I spent 20 years of my life growing up)—and my recent visit was nothing short of extraordinary. From breathtaking vistas to indulgent moments, this trip was a perfect mix of adventure and relaxation.

We kicked things off with sundowners at a stunning poolside home on Clifton Beach, where I reunited with one of my besties and the renowned confectionary chef Karen Schneid from “Ooh Lala Confectionary”. Sipping cocktails as the waves whispered in the background felt, well, natural.

Table Mountain was, of course, a highlight. The cable car ride up offered jaw-dropping views, but the real treat was spotting dassies—adorable, furry creatures basking in the sun (did you know they are cousins of the elephant?)

But in my opinion, for the best panoramic view of Table Mountain, Milnerton Beach is unbeatable—soft sands, ocean breeze, and the mountain towering in all its glory

Shopping enthusiasts, take note! The Green Market Square is a treasure trove of handcrafted gems, and the V&A Waterfront seamlessly blends local flair with luxury finds.

Our stay at The Cellars-Hohenort Hotel in the southern suburbs felt like a step into a fairy tale. This hidden gem is surrounded by lush gardens and unexpected wildlife, from majestic tortoises to flocks of Egyptian geese.

Cape Town is a city of contrasts, where nature, culture, and indulgence come together. If it’s not on your bucket list yet, it absolutely should be!

FRANKIE’S SONG OF THE WEEK

I would blare this song out the window when it first came out.

100 WEEKS OF POSITIVE MESSAGES

Frankie did 100 days of positive messages 3 years ago. He wanted to center them around mental health and positivity. We will post them each week for 100 weeks.

Smiling is free

Plus it is contagious.

When I was starting to feel a touch better I would put on a smile and hold it there for a few minutes each day.

I used the “fake it ‘til you make it” philosophy and I think it worked.

I have always lived with the theory that I don’t have the right to ruin your day so, please do your best not to ruin mine.

Smiling at someone is like passing good energy, it can uplift someones day in the same way a hello does. Similar to good energy, smiling is contagious.

I hope you have a great day and practice smiling, it’s free :).

Oh yeah, and don’t forget to buy your sweetie some flowers 🥰”
