So last week the art world descended on Miami for Basel. This is a fair that originated in the town of Basel, Switzerland and has made another home in Miami over the last twenty-ish years. It's a really fun weekend with artists displaying their art in the convention center, tents on the beach, galleries in homes, and make shift places all over the city.
I had the chance to join one of my friends at a few YPO (Young Presidents Association) functions and we landed on a lunch at the Plymouth hotel in Miami.
Let me tell you, we had a salad with avocado, greens, and the freshest dressing I've had in years. Fried chicken pieces with a plum sauce that should be in the super market (so good). Their fried rice was bomb 💣 and the little mini mochi dessert was a hit to finish off our meal.
This is a cute little spot in Miami for a lunch with a nice little pool to hang out at and that retro cool vibe everyone in Miami is looking for.
BONUS RESTO BY ANDRE MICHAEL BHARTI
Ultra Toronto
Okay, atmosphere is everything, but food is even better. This brilliant place in mid-town (Yonge/St. Clair) is a gem that hasn’t been fully discovered.
Formerly, Athur’s restaurant, this establishment has redefined the neighbourhood of Deer Park.
One of the owners, Charles Khabouth, has already established himself in the restaurant, bar and disco biz. He’s at the top of the game, and we know he’ll keep climbing.
Back to Ultra… meet the G.M., Antonio, and he’ll make sure your experience is beyond belief.
For those who want to engage in a “real” meal, hit the dining room; which turns into a place that becomes a dancing spectacle into the wee hours.
If you’re like me, and you like it pitch black where everybody is a vampire… go to the bar area. The Happy Hour offers the BEST Thai Spring Rolls in this big city/town, and the Szechuan Chicken with Facing Heaven Peppers give you just that right amount of spice to taste the flavor without giving up the fun.
If you’re a drinker, like myself, please try the PARAISO 10 hibiscus infused with Bacardi Rum, Aperol, Cynar, pineapple, and lime (2.5oz)
It does NOT disappoint.
But enough said, let’s get to the real deal.
Get the ½ dozen east coast oysters to start. Palate that with Wagyu wontons, and finish it off with the short rib, or the branzino…or both! But don’t miss the Dan Dan Noodles. This is Asian Fusion at its best!!
Please finish up with a stiff Sambuca with three coffee beans! Antonio (Sabato is his real last name…people from the 80’s will understand my Calvin Klein reference) will hook you up!
And if you just want a real dessert, hit the pecan tart. It’s to die for, and will loop well with your buzz after the Sambuca.
Either way, Ultra is the ultimate experience. Get off your ass and take an Uber/Taxi/Subway to the St. Clair station and walk your fat ass off up to a place where you will enjoy farm-to-table, or ocean-to-face food. It’s amazing!!
