Paros… NOT Paris 🇬🇷

Paros. Not Paris.

I’ve spent the last week in Paros, Greece, and apparently everyone I know who has tried to write about it has had the exact same problem: your phone decides Paros should be Paris.

Sorry. Had to get that autocorrection rant out of the way.

Now, back to the food.

If you know me well, you know Greek food is probably my favourite food on the planet.

I was introduced to tzatziki when I was 16 by my girlfriend Helen’s mother. I’m pretty sure she was feeding it to me in an attempt to stop me from kissing her daughter.

It didn’t work. I just loved the tzatziki. And Helen couldn't resist ;)

I also went on a few dates with her cousin, who was ALSO named Helen. Her mother liked me more. 😂

And that basically started a lifelong love affair with Greek food.

From hitting Mr. Greek on the Danforth, to Friendly Greek after the clubs, to my buddy John’s mom Nikkie making huge Easter lamb roasts with those incredible Greek rice plates… Greek food has always felt like comfort food to me.

From about 25 to 40, I was at Pantheon on the Danforth at least once a month. Loud musical happy birthdays big plates, great times.

And Athens, just east of Pape…hey George! 👋

Fat Fork and Crew have become go-to spots for big, quick Greek meals. I’m at Milos in Toronto for lunch every couple of weeks and love the one in Miami too. So grand. So beautiful. High ceiling. And the food is ridiculous.

I love Mandolin in Miami, and Mamakas is always a great place to pop in for a snack.

But the mother of all Greek party restaurants, and probably the closest thing I’ve found in North America to the TRUE Greek experience, is Myth in Toronto. Myth was also my first newslettter. By the way, I'm visiting the Myth family next week in Nafpaktos , wish me tons of souvlakia.

They absolutely hit it out of the park: food, vibe, music, ambiance, the whole thing.

If you want to feel like you’re actually in Greece without leaving North America, Myth is the place.

Anyway…Back to Paros.

We spent a day on a boat around Paros, checking out some incredible cliffs and little coves, with a captain who was an absolute beauty of a guy. Great captain. Ballsy too.

We stopped at this fantastic daytime beach bar/lunch spot called Soros on Antiparos.

The fried calamari?

Maybe the best little fried calamari I’ve ever had.

And then came the saganaki. Dark, beautifully encrusted and absolutely delicious.

Sadly, no OPA flame. 😢

The flaming saganaki seems to be disappearing everywhere, and I seriously miss it. Bring back the OPA!

If you’re in the area, hit Soros. Great spot.

Then there’s Naoussa.

That’s where the party is. It’s also where you’ll find some of the best evening restaurants and party spots on the island. Check out Barbarossa, it's a must.

Don’t forget to hit Siparos for the sunsets. Trust me.

Get the octopus 🐙, the chickpeas, the scallops… and the grilled fish and steak were absolutely insane.

I might go as far as saying this was one of the top 5 most delicious meals I’ve ever had.

Not joking.

No, seriously. Not joking.

I’ll write more about this one in another newsletter, but I had to sneak it in here before my editor Maya killed me. 😂

My brother also went windsurfing, and apparently Paros is a pretty serious destination for the sport.

We also hit Crios, another great beach club that I’d highly recommend.

honestly, Paros is a gem.

I’ve been to Mykonos, Santorini, Ios and Zakynthos, and I’ve loved them all for different reasons.

But so far?

Paros is my favourite.

You get a little bit of everything: great beaches, incredible food, nightlife, beach clubs, water sports, beautiful towns, boats, coves and just enough chaos to make it interesting.

If you’re thinking about Greece and want to try something beyond the usual suspects…

Go to Paros.

Just make sure your phone knows you’re going to PAROS.

Not Paris.

TECH SPOTLIGHT

If you've ever been in the middle of a ChatGPT rabbit hole only to hit a usage limit, there’s some good news. OpenAI is removing limits on text-based ChatGPT conversations for all users, including those on the free plan.

The change comes as ChatGPT officially crosses a pretty wild milestone: more than 1 billion weekly users. Apparently, asking AI everything from serious work questions to “what can I make for dinner with three random ingredients?” has officially gone mainstream.

Free and Go users will now use the new GPT-5.6 Luna model by default, replacing GPT-5.5. They’re also getting a new “Think” button, which lets users ask the AI to put more reasoning power behind complicated questions. There will still be separate limits for features that require more computing power, including file uploads, images, voice, and image generation — so unlimited doesn't quite mean everything unlimited.

Paying users are getting some upgrades of their own. Plus and Pro subscribers will have access to an improved GPT-5.6 Sol, designed to provide better responses across everyday tasks like research, planning, writing, advice, and decision-making. They’ll also get a thinking slider, allowing them to adjust how much reasoning ChatGPT uses depending on the task. Quick question? Keep it light. Complicated life plan? Turn that thinking dial up.

OpenAI says its internal testing also found significantly fewer factual errors with the new models compared with GPT-5.5-Instant, suggesting the update isn't just about giving people more ChatGPT — it's about making those conversations more reliable, too.

So, with unlimited text chats rolling out to free users, there’s officially nothing stopping that “quick question” from becoming a 45-message conversation. 🤖💬✨

What It Means

To inveigle someone is to persuade them in a clever or deceptive way to do something. Inveigle can also mean “to get something in a clever or deceptive way.”

100 WEEKS OF POSITIVE MESSAGES

Frankie did 100 days of positive messages 3 years ago. He wanted to center them around mental health and positivity. We will post them each week for 100 weeks.

"I am scared of my calendar.

It's true.

When someone tries to sneak something into my calendar I want to cry. I often hit denied.

I hate the idea that I have a meeting the next day, the next week, or the next month.

llove to be flexible.

I like to save my calendar for reminders about breathing, kids soccer games, nap cues, tee times and the odd birthday party.

I know it is impossible to never have a zoom, but a lot of time and anxiety could be saved by just picking up the phone and dealing with the matter when it comes up.

One 5 minute phone call could alleviate 30 emails back and forth.

Hours and even days can be saved with one call that give you a much better understanding of tone anyways.

Can you believe it? A phone call? Crazy!

If there is one thing that gives me anxiety, it is the fear that l have a defined plan or that I will have the same day twice.

I love it when someone says " let's fly there tonight! ".

I hate routines, there, I said it.

🧠A Weekly Dose of Psychology You Didn’t Know You Needed 🧠

Hi everyone! I’m Maya, I hold an Honours Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science and Psychology (basically, I can analyze both a crime scene and your overly complicated coffee order). I’m also a Master of Arts candidate in Counselling Psychology, which means I spend a lot of time thinking about how the human brain works, and why it sometimes does the exact opposite of what we want it to do.

Psych Fact #53: Holding something warm can actually make you perceive people as “warmer” too.

Apparently, your morning coffee might be influencing more than your ability to function before 9 a.m.

Psychology research has found that experiencing physical warmth can subtly influence how we judge other people socially. In one well-known experiment, people who briefly held a warm cup were more likely to describe another person as generous, caring, and friendly compared with people who held a cold cup.

This is sometimes connected to embodied cognition, the idea that our physical sensations can influence our thoughts and judgments without us realizing it. Our brains seem to link the physical concept of warmth with the social concept of warmth.

It’s a strange reminder that our opinions aren’t formed in a perfectly logical little control room inside our heads. Sometimes completely unrelated things happening around us can quietly nudge how we interpret the world.

So if you have an important first meeting coming up, maybe offer everyone coffee.

I’m kidding... mostly.

CHRIS’ CORNER

TFC Home for (Almost) Must-Win Game

Toronto FC is ready to play their first home game since before the World Cup break on Saturday night against the New England Revolution – kick off at 7:30 p.m. Watch on Apple TV.

It’s as must-win as you can get this early in the season. With the Reds starting to get healthy and new German midfielder Niklas Dorsch in the line-up, they’ll have a good shot at getting all three points. Unfortunately, due to several family commitments that day, I’ll only be able to stream the game and not be there live.

Toronto FC is 3-7-8 on the season, and while the draws have kept them alive in the playoff hunt (at least for one of the two wildcard berths), if wins don’t come soon the season will be another lost one. Their last win was on April 4 against the Colorado Rapids as part of a 3-2-1 start to the season.

Another lost year could – perhaps should – mean cleaning house (again) and most definitely the axe would need to fall on general manager Jason Hernandez and head coach Robin Fraser. After all, the city deserves more than losing football and by bringing in several U.S. players – both Hernandez and Fraser are Yanks – they have forgotten (or perhaps never truly knew) the soul of Toronto.

Thankfully we have homegrown Canadians like captain Jonathan Osorio and the feistiest back on the planet in Richie Laryea to hang our national pride on. These two men also deserve better than another lost season without playoff game.

For all our sakes I hope the Reds can get three points against New England on Saturday, and follow it up with another win on Wednesday against Charlotte (also at BMO Field, also at 7:30 p.m., also on Apple TV.

If not, we’ll need to start having very real conversations about what the front office, bench, and roster should look like in 2027.
