What do you think of when you’re heading out East?

Seafood, of course!

Let me tell you… I’ve got a whole new appreciation for it after my trip last week.

We’ve had a golf trip to Cabot planned for years. cancellations, and endless email chains, I honestly never thought it would happen. Surprisingly, Halifax was a quick flight from Toronto, and am I ever glad we made the trip.

Before we left, we talked about grabbing lobster from roadside shacks and keeping it simple. Instead, as soon as we landed, we met up with a friend who insisted we try the lobster croissant sandwich at The Drift.

OMG. OMG. OMG.

It might be one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had.

But you know what was even better? The Chablis? No. The lobster pasta? No.

The lobster fritters.

Absolutely insane.

If you’ve ever had conch in the British Virgin Islands, they’re somewhat similar, but these were battered to perfection with just the right amount of zest and seasoning. Imagine crispy, golden lobster-packed bites with the texture of the world’s greatest seafood Timbit. They were unbelievable.

The Drift is a major win. Located on the waterfront inside Halifax’s beautiful Muir Hotel, it’s just about perfect.

Our trip was also filled with oysters, and I have to say, I will never claim I’ve had better oysters anywhere else. If you ever hear me say otherwise, call me out on it. We had at least four oysters each at six different places, and every single one was exceptional. They were so good that I almost didn’t need the accompaniments. Almost.

I’m so glad I visited Halifax.

Oh, and by the way, the golf at Cabot was insane. INSANE.

Was it better than Cabot Saint Lucia? Nope.

But if Cabot Saint Lucia is a 9.8, then Cabot Cape Breton is a 9.6.

Now stop right there.

I have to tell you about The Crab Shack.

Oh my gosh, was it ever good.

Just outside Inverness sits this little shack serving some of the freshest seafood sandwiches you’ll ever find on perfectly fluffy buns. If you go, order the Mainlander and the Crab Bretoner.

The Mainlander is warm, seasoned lobster piled onto a bun—pure heaven.

The Crab Bretoner is chilled crab mixed perfectly with aioli, green onion, and a few other ingredients that come together beautifully.

If you’re anywhere near Inverness, make the stop.

As I’m writing this, I’m remembering our Sunday dinner at The Five Fishermen. Order the lobster. Order the lobster carbonara. Order the chowder. And order oysters at every single place you visit in Halifax.

Trust me.

I wasn’t expecting to love the food this much.

Wow.

And if you’re there on a Sunday, make your way to Durty Nelly’s. In my opinion, it’s the best pub in the world.

Yep, I said it.

TECH SPOTLIGHT

If you've been thinking about buying a new Mac or iPad, you may want to check your budget. Apple has announced price increases across much of its Mac, iPad, and smart home lineup, citing a global memory shortage fueled by the rapid expansion of AI infrastructure.

The biggest jumps hit the Mac family. The new MacBook Neo now starts at $699 instead of $599, while the base MacBook Air climbs to $1,299, and the MacBook Pro now starts at $1,999. Several iPads also saw significant increases, along with devices like the HomePod, HomePod mini, and Apple TV.

One product that's escaped—for now—is the iPhone. Apple says smartphone pricing remains unchanged, although the company has hinted that future increases aren't off the table if component shortages continue.

So why are prices rising? Ironically, it's because of AI. As companies race to build massive AI data centers, demand for memory and storage chips has skyrocketed, making these critical components far more expensive than they were just a year ago. Apple says the surge has reached a point where absorbing the added costs is no longer sustainable.

Industry analysts expect Apple won't be the last to make this move. As AI continues to reshape the tech landscape, the same chips powering chatbots and large language models are also becoming essential—and increasingly expensive—for everyday consumer devices.

The silver lining? If your current laptop is still hanging in there, it may have just become a little more valuable. 💻📈

Huge Match on Sunday

It won’t be the biggest match in Canadian soccer history – the Copa America semi-final vs. Argentina, all the women’s team’s medal matches were bigger – but Sunday’s match against South Africa is still huge.

Canada has achieved a few firsts so far this World Cup: first point, first draw, first won, first time advancing to the knockout stage.

But, a first knockout round victory could be momentous for the program and the sport in Canada. This team – and the one that qualified for 2022 – has already made great strides in building support nationwide. It reminds me of when Christine Sinclair (Canada’s GOAT) led her team to a bronze medal in the Olympics.

This men’s World Cup team has charisma, skill, passion, and determination. They’re likable and when you combine likable with winning matches, it’s  a perfect combination to grow a fan base.

That’s why a win on Sunday and advancing to the Round-of-16 is so very important for Canada Soccer. There are still millions of soccer fans who cheer number-one for their country of origin or their parents origin nations and number-two for Canada. But a Canadian team that continues to advance in the knockout stages could start turning that around.

I for one will be wearing my old school Umbro Canada jersey and my new scarf/hat combo to cheering our boys on … hopefully you will be watching and cheering them on too!
