Fish and chips, anyone?

I know, I know / it's one of the most hotly debated topics in London. Who makes the best fish and chips?

London wasn't always known as a the dynamic food destination it is now. It was more often thought of as a great place for a pint, a good curry, and, of course, fish and chips. These days, London's food scene is undoubtedly one of the best in the world, but fish and chips remains a topic guaranteed to spark debate.

With so many people travelling this summer, I'm sure London will be on a lot of itineraries.

I asked around and got plenty of opinions. Some people insist fish and chips should only be served wrapped in newspaper, others wouldn't dare put white vinegar (the way I like my fries, drenched) anywhere near it, and some don't seem to mind a more soggy batter. 

Me? I was on a mission to find fish that was fresh, CRISPY, and perfectly cooked.

I recently spent a few days in London with my parents, and my mom was craving fish and chips. I asked a friend for a recommendation (Alex :) and Ben's came up. As luck would have it, while we were walking around, my mom spotted Ben's. She claims she found it herself, but she also takes credit for absolutely everything that goes right.

So in we went.

We ordered the fish and chips, and I even asked for gravy on the side (don't bother). 

The fish was outstanding ;) perfectly battered, incredibly fresh, crispy, and absolutely delicious. The tartar sauce was excellent, and while the chips were good, the fish was unquestionably the star of the show.

I highly recommend Ben's Traditional Fish & Chips. It's reasonably priced and conveniently located not far from the train station.

For my next trip to London, I've been told I need to try two more spots:

• Ken's Fish Bar
• The Mayfair Chippy

The research continues.

Remember when social media was worried about getting more young users? Now, governments around the world are asking whether some users should be on these platforms at all.

A growing number of countries are introducing or considering laws that would restrict social media access for children and teenagers, citing concerns about cyberbullying, mental health, online predators, addictive platform design, and excessive screen time.

Not everyone agrees with the approach. Critics argue that age-verification requirements could create privacy concerns and that outright bans may oversimplify the challenges young people face online. Others question whether restrictions can realistically be enforced in a digital world where workarounds are often just a few clicks away.

Still, the trend signals a major shift in how governments view social media. For years, the focus was on helping platforms grow and connect people. Today, the conversation is increasingly about limits, safeguards, and who should have access in the first place.

Whether these bans ultimately succeed remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: the debate over social media's role in young people's lives has moved from the comment section to the halls of government. 📱⚖️🌍

Psych Fact #50: Your brain can make you feel nostalgic for moments that aren't even over yet.

Have you ever been having a really great day and suddenly thought, "I'm going to miss this" while it was still happening?

Psychologists sometimes refer to this as anticipatory nostalgia. It's the strange phenomenon where your brain starts looking back on a moment before it has even become a memory.

Researchers believe this happens because your brain is constantly trying to preserve meaningful experiences. When it recognizes that a moment is special, whether it's a vacation, a holiday, a summer evening with friends, or even a random Tuesday that just feels right, it starts mentally filing it away before it's gone.

In a way, it's your brain's reminder to pay attention.

So the next time you catch yourself feeling nostalgic for the present, don't be alarmed. It's actually a sign that your brain has identified something worth remembering.

Not every important moment announces itself. Sometimes your brain quietly lets you know by making you miss it before it's even over.

Fun at the Jays Game

It had been well over a year, maybe even close to two years, since I last visited the SkyDome (Rogers Centre) for a Toronto Blue Jays game. It had been so long I forgot how much fun they are live, especially after last year's amazing run to the World Series.

Yes, I know FIFA fever has descended upon Toronto – indeed North America as a whole – but the Jays bring back the days when we used to freeze at the Mistake by the Lake (the old Exhibition Stadium).

The game had everything, home runs, quality pitching, some very good defense, and always the chance the Jays would win.

Unfortunately, they couldn't dig themselves out of an early 5-0 hole and ended up losing 5-2. Still, the energy throughout the game was awesome, and hanging out with my old friend Roman was even better. Super cool getting to see the gold gloves in the car area on our way to and from our seats as well.

I had a great chat with the nice couple behind me about the pre-SkyDome days (I will always call it the SkyDome) and remembering how we didn't care how cold the open-air stadium was when we were kids.

Bonus was it being Roy Halladay night as they were playing the Philadelphia Phillies (whom the late great ace also played for) and we got decent Halladay jerseys to take home.

Oh, and the seats were very close in the Rogers Banner Club section behind home plate. If you ever get a chance, it's worth a try. Except now I'm super spoiled and may never enjoy a regular seat the same way again.

On that note, I highly recommend heading to the ballpark at some point this season – especially if you haven't been there in a while. You’ll be happy you did!
