FRANKIE’S FAVOURITE EATERIES

Coconut Grove anyone? Yep — when you live in Miami, you know exactly where Coconut Grove is. It’s a neighbourhood that feels more like Southern California than Miami.

It has that laid-back, upscale vibe, which is probably why so many Silicon Valley billionaires seem to be buying there lately. Who knows?

But here’s what really caught my attention: my Canadian friends, the owners of one of my favourite restaurants in the world, Myth in Toronto, have opened their first Florida location.

Grand Public.

How do I describe it? Maybe a gastro-inspired, elevated, “every-night-of-the-week” kind of spot. A little Earls energy, but more refined and polished. Whatever label you want to give it, one thing is certain; it’s great. The food hits, the atmosphere works, and it’s the perfect place to gather with friends or family a few times a week.

We started with a chopped Greek salad, some seriously delicious Asian-style chicken bites, and a wicked beef dip sandwich / the clear winner of the night. Yes, we shared everything, so don’t judge me.

Round two brought grilled steak, fries, sushi, and tuna tartare. There’s genuinely something for everyone on this menu, and I think that’s exactly what they set out to achieve.

The décor feels elegant but still fun. Confident without being pretentious. It works equally well for date night or a lively dinner with friends.

A light Negroni-style cocktail and a spicy watermelon margarita later, I was almost ready for dessert. Everyone knows I’m usually not a dessert guy, but if there’s cheesecake or crème brûlée on the menu, I’m sharing one.

Their take on crème brûlée was unreal — kind of a crème brûlée/flan hybrid with a crispy pie-like base.

Bam. Loved it.

This Toronto group — The UniQ Group — knows how to create energy, and they’ve always been great at building spots that turn into a scene. I’m sure late-night seatings here will be buzzing with good music and even better vibes.

Let’s just say Grand Public is a very welcome addition to the neighbourhood. Cocowalk officially has a new hotspot.

Congrats to our Canadians :)

The Mall wants to be the Spotify of shopping

If your online shopping routine currently involves 17 open tabs, a dozen email newsletters, and a vague hope that you'll remember when your favorite brand has a sale, a new app thinks it has a better solution.

Meet The Mall, a startup aiming to create a personalized shopping hub where users can follow their favorite brands, track sales, discover new products, and browse everything from a single feed.

The concept is surprisingly simple: instead of jumping between countless websites, users build their own virtual mall by selecting brands they love. The app then monitors those retailers for sales, restocks, new drops, and promotions, sending updates directly to users. Think of it as a social feed — but for shopping.

The founders say they were inspired by platforms like Spotify, Letterboxd, and Goodreads, which help people organize and discover music, movies, and books. Their argument? Shopping never got its own equivalent.

One of the app's most interesting features is product discovery. Users can compare similar items across thousands of brands, potentially uncovering less expensive alternatives or finding products they may never have seen through traditional advertising. The platform currently tracks more than 10,000 brands and can even add new ones through their social media profiles.

For now, The Mall is free and launching gradually through an invite-only system. But its broader vision is bigger than just helping people shop. The company hopes to become a place where trends, recommendations, and personal style can be discovered through friends, creators, and communities rather than endless targeted ads.

In a world where online shopping feels increasingly fragmented, The Mall is betting that what consumers really want is something surprisingly old-fashioned: one place where everything comes together. 🛍️📱✨

Louis Vuitton Opens London’s Most Stylish Pop-Up Hotel

If you've strolled through Berkeley Square in London's Mayfair neighbourhood recently and found yourself doing a double take at a discreet plaque reading "Louis Vuitton Hotel", you're not alone.

No, Louis Vuitton hasn't suddenly entered the hospitality business in London (at least not quite). But for a few glorious weeks, the French Maison has transformed a Mayfair townhouse into one of the city's most imaginative pop-up experiences — an immersive celebration marking 130 years of the iconic Monogram. (uk.louisvuitton.com)

The concept is delightfully clever. Rather than simply displaying products, Louis Vuitton invites visitors to step inside its universe. From the moment you "check in" through the Keepall Lobby, every room tells the story of one of the House's most beloved creations. The Speedy, Alma, Noé and Neverfull are no longer just handbags; they become entire environments, reimagined through art, design, craftsmanship and storytelling.

What struck me most was how the experience manages to feel both nostalgic and contemporary. The Monogram, originally created by Georges Vuitton in 1896, remains one of fashion's most recognisable symbols, yet here it feels surprisingly fresh. Rather than dwelling on heritage alone, the exhibition explores how these iconic pieces continue to evolve and inspire new generations.

The experience is as much about atmosphere as it is about fashion. Upstairs, Café Alma offers a distinctly Parisian escape overlooking Berkeley Square, while downstairs, Bar Noé transforms into a glamorous champagne-and-cocktail destination after dark. Between the elegant interiors, playful installations and endless photo opportunities, it feels less like a retail space and more like stepping inside a beautifully curated dream.

For Louis Vuitton devotees, it's a chance to immerse themselves in the House's craftsmanship and travel heritage. For everyone else, it's simply one of London's most stylish temporary attractions this spring.

You can't book a room, but that's hardly the point.

The Louis Vuitton Hotel is less about sleeping and more about dreaming.

And for an hour or two in Mayfair, that's exactly what you'll do.

🧠A Weekly Dose of Psychology You Didn’t Know You Needed 🧠

Hi everyone! I’m Maya, I hold an Honours Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science and Psychology (basically, I can analyze both a crime scene and your overly complicated coffee order). I’m also a Master of Arts candidate in Counselling Psychology, which means I spend a lot of time thinking about how the human brain works, and why it sometimes does the exact opposite of what we want it to do.

Psych Fact #49: The first answer that pops into your head is often harder to forget than the correct one.

Have you ever confidently answered a trivia question, found out you were wrong, learned the right answer, and then somehow kept remembering the wrong one anyway?

Psychologists call this the continued influence effect. Once information enters your memory, your brain doesn't like throwing it away, even when it knows it's incorrect. In fact, the first explanation you hear often has a surprising advantage because your brain has already built connections around it.

This is one reason myths can be so persistent. Even after people learn the facts, the original misinformation can linger in the background and continue influencing their thinking.

The good news? Repetition helps. The more often your brain encounters the correct information, the stronger those new connections become.

So the next time you accidentally call a fact by the wrong name, remember: your brain isn't being stubborn. It's just hanging onto the first draft.

Until next time,
Maya 🧠✨

CHRIS’ CORNER

More World Cup Fan Fest Sites Needed

The biggest (and likely most expensive to attend) FIFA World Cup in history is almost here. In less than a week the opening match between Mexico and South Africa (June 11 at 3 p.m.) gets it all started.

The next day the other two co-hosts take the pitch. In Toronto, Canada takes on Bosnia-Herzegovina at 3 p.m. followed by the United States versus Paraguay in Los Angeles at 9 p.m.

After that, things really get rolling with three to five games daily for the group stages, and all the big favourites to win the whole tournament taking the pitch.

Without going too in depth into each group and pick (that’s for The Chris O Show podcast on June 10 about that), I’m going to share a few thoughts for those joining World Cup pools or wanting to make a wager on their fave betting site.

A note: Only nations from Europe or South America have ever won the World Cup. That isn’t changing anytime soon. And, as I’ve mentioned before, the majority of nations in North America from June 11 to July 19 (not all, but the majority) don’t really belong at a tournament claiming to be showcasing the “World’s Best.”

The Favourites

The top eight favourites to win the whole tournament – from most favoured to least favoured – are Spain, France, England, Brazil, Portugal, Argentina, Germany, and the Netherlands.

Of those eight, the easiest and safest choices are either Spain or France. Both these squads are stacked from top to bottom and have back-ups that could be the best eleven players on half of the world’s teams.

I’m personally staying away from England, Portugal, and Argentina. Not to say they can’t win it all (Argentina are the defending champions), but I’m just not feeling it with these teams this year.

Germany and the Netherlands are potentials for sure. Both have the right technical abilities, a good mix of veteran and young players, and could at least find themselves in the final. It would be nice to see the Netherlands win it all after years of being good enough but never doing it.

Now, to my personal pick of this group: Brazil. They have the talent and now they have the greatest coach in football history: Carlo Ancelotti. It’s not just because he’s Italian that he’s the greatest coach – or for me personally the last coach to lead AS Roma to the Serie A title in 2001 – but he just wins wherever he goes. Ancelotti’s ability to get the best out of the best Brazilian players at his various club coaching gigs is why I’m picking Brazil to win the 2026 World Cup. That and the fact I can say the only reason they won is because of their Italian coach (hehehe).

The Dark Horses

No, none of the hosts are potential World Cup champions. Anyone telling you different is fooling themselves.

However, there are a couple of dark horse winners hiding in the giant mass of 48 teams (thus the biggest World Cup ever). There are likely six or seven teams (that was for the kids out there) who could be considered in the second tier of potential winners. However, I’m going to highlight just two.

Croatia has long been a dangerous nation in both European and World football. They have produced some of the greatest players of all time – including the ageless wonder Luka Modric (one of my favourite players ever). This year’s squad is being overlooked, but I watch a lot of European football, and these players have been at the biggest clubs in the world, playing against the best there is. Croatians show out for each other and fight like they’re defending their national identity every single match. They were in the World Cup final in 2018, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they did it again. Plus, my mom is from Croatia, so there is that.

Ecuador. This is a shout out to my buddy Roman. He’s the one who got me a little more hyped about this South American nation. With only half their squad playing in Europe – albeit for very, very good teams – and the rest plying their trade in South America, this tiny country may be overlooked. But, they’re good . . . really good. Will they win the World Cup? Probably not. Could they? Yes. So, if you’re looking for an underdog to wager on that has a chance and you don’t want a European team to win, this is your team.

On that note, I really feel that all three of Canada, Mexico, and the United States will advance at least out of their groups and then anything can happen.

Thanks for reading! Ciao for Now!
