FRANKIE’S FAVOURITE EATERIES

Mila / Miami F1 Weekend

Mila is hard to describe, but I’ll try: great-looking people, great looking people, delicious food, and a notoriously hard-to-get-into nightclub downstairs. Reportedly the highest-grossing restaurant in the United States, it knows how to charge and how to deliver.

We went as a large group and ordered plenty of platters to share. The vibe is Japo-Peruvian steakish with the music pumping - ;) think sashimi, ceviche, and a steakhouse all rolled into one lively room.

The restaurant sits on the third floor of a building on Lincoln Road, split between an interior dining room and an open-air terrace.

Standouts:

 Shawarma dumplings 🥟 — awesome

 Madai sashimi — insane

 Bluefin tartare — excellent

 Crispy cauliflower — dynamite

Tomahawk steak — solid, but unnecessary in my opinion.

The cocktails were fabulous.

The club downstairs requires a hefty table minimum. A few in our group ventured down, weren’t blown away, and came back up. That said, I’ve been before and enjoyed it // if you want a gorgeous crowd, EDM, and that Miami energy (fair warning: people don’t really dance anymore, they stand, scroll, and sway), it’s worth a visit after dinner. It’s not Paris style clubs, but it’s still a great time.

Mila is a must in Miami. It’s on Lincoln Road, a classic strip that feels like it’s finally having its revival. Here’s hoping that continues. 🙂

TECH SPOTLIGHT

AI vs. doctors? Not so fast… but the results are raising eyebrows

A new study out of Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center is adding fuel to one of tech’s biggest questions: how good is AI in high-stakes situations?

The researchers tested how OpenAI’s models — including OpenAI o1 and OpenAI GPT-4o — performed when diagnosing real emergency room cases. In one experiment, the AI was given the same patient data as doctors and asked to make a diagnosis. Then, independent physicians reviewed the results without knowing who (or what) made each call.

Here’s where it gets interesting: in early-stage ER evaluations — when information is limited and decisions need to be made quickly — one of the AI models actually performed on par with or slightly better than the human physicians. It correctly identified the exact or close diagnosis in about 67% of cases, compared to 50–55% for the doctors involved.

Impressive? Definitely. But before we start picturing robot-run emergency rooms, researchers are hitting the brakes.

The study doesn’t suggest AI is ready to replace doctors — far from it. It only looked at text-based data (not imaging or physical exams), and there’s still no clear framework for accountability when AI gets things wrong. Plus, some experts point out that the comparison wasn’t apples-to-apples, since the physicians weren’t all ER specialists.

Still, the takeaway is hard to ignore: AI is getting very good at processing medical information quickly — especially in those critical first moments.

So while your future ER visit will still involve a human doctor, don’t be surprised if there’s some powerful AI working quietly behind the scenes, helping them make faster, more informed decisions. 🏥🤖

100 WEEKS OF POSITIVE MESSAGES

Frankie did 100 days of positive messages 3 years ago. He wanted to center them around mental health and positivity. We will post them each week for 100 weeks.

I know a great place where you can get some ;) @verdiflorist but you can also go to a park and pick your own.

Life is not just about "to do" lists, rules, regulations and efficiencies.

Life is meant to be lived and enjoyed.

If you wait until you are 65 to start, you may find that you have the money to do it but you no longer have the energy or the time to try the things you always wanted to do.

Take a drive to the country and soak your feet in a new lake. Challenge yourself to meet someone who excites you. Explore a culture of food that interests you and take a canoe ride down a river.

Try things and enjoy the unknown.

But don't let anyone, including yourself, tell you that things are impossible or can't be done. It is not true, they just take some work.

We all come from different walks of life with contrasting shapes, sizes, colours and preferences but what we all share is this planet and the sun shines for all of us.

Get out there, have some fun and gosh darn it smell the roses.

🧠A Weekly Dose of Psychology You Didn’t Know You Needed 🧠

Hi everyone! I’m Maya, I hold an Honours Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science and Psychology (basically, I can analyze both a crime scene and your overly complicated coffee order). I’m also a Master of Arts candidate in Counselling Psychology, which means I spend a lot of time thinking about how the human brain works, and why it sometimes does the exact opposite of what we want it to do.

Psych Fact #45: Your brain makes decisions before you’re aware of them.

It might feel like you carefully think through your choices, but a lot of the work actually happens behind the scenes. Research shows that your brain can begin forming a decision seconds before you consciously realize it.

What you experience as a “gut feeling” is often your brain quickly pulling from past experiences, patterns, and subtle cues, then presenting you with a conclusion. Your conscious mind then steps in to justify it.

This doesn’t mean you’re not in control. It just means your brain is incredibly efficient. It’s constantly processing information in the background so you don’t have to overthink every little choice.

The interesting part is learning when to trust that instinct and when to slow things down and think more deliberately.

So next time you say, “I just had a feeling,” you probably did. Your brain just got there before you did.

Until next time,
Maya 🧠✨

CHRIS’ CORNER

The G.O.A.T. Is Back, but who else would I like to see?

Barring injury or a coach’s decision to rest the Greatest of All Time, Leo Messi will suit up for the third (maybe final) time at BMO Field in Toronto on Saturday, May 9.

With Inter Miami early in their season, an afternoon game, and no mid-week Champions Cup to worry about, it’s very likely the Argentinian magician will lace up the boots and take to the pitch. He has also yet to score in Toronto. He does have a goal against TFC, but that was in Miami.

Also likely to play on Saturday is Rodrigo De Paul, another Argentinian. DePaul spent most of his career scoring goals and making brilliant plays for Udinese – my friend Manny’s home club in Serie A. I’m excited to see him too.

I already saw Messi and Luis Suarez and Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets the first time the Inter Miami crew visited two years ago. Last year I couldn’t make it, but other people definitely enjoyed the opportunity. EXCLUSIVE OFFER: Use Promo Code SFD2026 get 20% off any tiered Chris O Show Patreon Membership for the first month.

With all the excitement that this Inter Miami team generates wherever they go, I started to think about who else I would like to see visit Toronto. And then I realized most of them aren’t coming this year since they’re all in the Western Conference.

Son Heung-Min plays for LAFC and Thomas Muller plays in Vancouver – neither is making a visit to Toronto anytime soon, and pretty much everyone else at this point I’ve already been able to watch live.

The next star player potentially coming to town is in October when Orlando City visits and hopefully Antoine Griezmann has begun playing with them by then. His two-year deal begins after the World Cup in July.

Surely more European, South American, and other world stars will find their way into Major League Soccer in the near future, but for this year, the visit by Messi and co. could be it.

That’s it for me! Ciao for Now!
