FRANKIE’S FAVOURITE EATERIES

With many people in spring break mode and Miami being a popular destination, here are two spots I tried last week that were not only fun ... but absolutely delicious.

You enter through one of those perfectly Instagrammable entrances; all pink with big letters spelling COTE on the door. It opens into a super cool bar with lively music. It was a Thursday night and the place was packed.

You’re seated at a typical Korean BBQ-style table… but with a twist.

You don’t cook your own food , your server does it for you, right in front of you.

The meats are fantastic cuts, and along with them come all the classic Korean sides: kimchi, cabbage, mushrooms, and fermented salads that perfectly complement the proteins.

It’s a fun, high-energy spot in the Design District, so if you’re looking for Asian flair in one of Miami’s sexiest neighborhoods, look no further than COTE.

Let me start with this: Delicious. Twice. Delicious.

And yes… also expensive.

This recommendation came from a friend from Toronto who I bumped into on the boardwalk in Miami who said I had to make a reso there, thanks Don doing what he does.  One of Toronto’s well-known restaurateurs opened a very cool spot right in the heart of Wynwood, arguably Miami’s trendiest neighborhood.

Think spray-painted murals, high-end taco joints, artisanal doughnuts, Cuban sandwich spots, and a collection of funky restaurants , all with that “cool chef in his early 30s making things happen” vibe.

Martucci delivers.

Great drinks, soaring ceilings, and one of the coolest wine rooms I’ve ever seen. Bottles are retrieved by staff using a mechanical rope system that lifts them up to shelves roughly 25 feet high.

The food highlights included

  • The lobster pasta -fantastic

  • The steak - outstanding

  • The radicchio salad  excellently yummy

  • The pizza  dynamite 🧨 dynamite - double fried, something like that.

Martucci is a big win. 🥇

Swap the scroll: apps that won’t eat your entire evening

We’ve all been there — you pick up your phone to check one thing, and suddenly you’re 47 videos deep into chaos. Doomscrolling has quietly become a daily habit for a lot of people, and while it’s easy to blame “the algorithm,” it’s also fair to admit… it’s kind of hard to stop.

The good news? Your phone doesn’t have to be the problem — it can also be the solution.

If you still want something quick and engaging (without spiraling into internet oblivion), a few apps are offering smarter ways to spend those in-between moments. For example, Radio Garden lets you spin a virtual globe and tune into live radio stations from around the world — a surprisingly calming way to feel connected without endless scrolling.

Looking to give your brain a mini workout? Elevate turns cognitive skills like memory and focus into quick daily games, while Vocabulary helps you casually build your word bank (and maybe finally understand those niche words people throw around in group chats).

If you’re in the mood for something a bit more competitive, Seterra offers geography games that are oddly addictive, and NYT Games delivers daily puzzles like Wordle and crosswords that feel productive and fun.

Or, if you’ve been telling yourself you’ll learn a new language “one day,” Drops keeps lessons short, visual, and actually manageable.

Will these apps completely cure doomscrolling? Maybe not. But they might just help you trade one hour of mindless scrolling for something a little more fun — and a lot more satisfying. 📱✨

Jagger sisters: Inside Jo Malone’s Latest Collaboration

The magic about sisters is not the matching outfits; it's when you’ve shared a life but somehow ended up entirely your own woman.

Which is why Jo Malone London’s new collaboration with Georgia May and Lizzy Jagger feels… right. The art of being connected yet completely different is the Jagger sisters.

The art of being connected yet completely different is the Jagger sisters.

On paper, they’re cut from the same cloth — rock-and-roll lineage, British cool, that effortless kind of beauty you can’t quite manufacture. But look closer, and the differences are where things get interesting.

Georgia May, with her laid-back, beauty-insider world. Lizzy, a little more grounded, more activist, quietly powerful. Same story, different chapters.

And that’s exactly what Jo Malone taps into with its English Pear fragrances — two scents, one idea: you don’t have to choose who you are, just how you feel today.

The campaign plays out like a daydream. A sunlit orchard, the kind you imagine just outside London but never quite find. Long grass, soft dresses, that hazy golden light that makes everything feel a little more romantic than it really is .

It’s less “campaign shoot” and more “moment you wish you’d stumbled into.”

Georgia leans into English Pear & Freesia — classic, elegant, the fragrance equivalent of a perfectly cut blazer you throw on without thinking. Lizzy, meanwhile, chooses English Pear & Sweet Pea — softer, lighter, the olfactory version of a Sunday morning with no plans.

And suddenly, it’s not about fragrance at all.

It’s about identity. About the fact that even when you come from the same place — the same family, the same history — you still get to write your own version of the story.

Because here’s the thing: style isn’t about matching. It’s about contrast. It’s about knowing that the most interesting women aren’t the ones who fit into a single box — they’re the ones who move between moods, between moments, between versions of themselves.

And maybe that’s what Jo Malone understands so well.

Some days you’re freesia. Some days you’re sweet pea. And the best days? You don’t have to decide.

Because Jo Malone London isn’t really about fragrance — it’s about the quiet luxury of choice. The kind that slips into your day without announcing itself but somehow changes the way you move through it.

FRANKIE’S SONG OF THE WEEK

Here's a fun little one I just added to my Spotify account.

100 WEEKS OF POSITIVE MESSAGES

Frankie did 100 days of positive messages 3 years ago. He wanted to center them around mental health and positivity. We will post them each week for 100 weeks.

63/100

It's a funny little word, isn't it?

The ones that look beyond their families and themselves to make sure you're looked after.

The ones that throw their shoulders back and protect the vulnerable ones.

The ones that stick around late and teach your kids a new skill.

It is easy to sit around and criticize others.

It is easy to be a bully.

But it all comes down to the way you treat people and the way you make people feel.

For me that is the definition of class.

Thank you to the ones who took care of me when I couldn't take care of myself.

You are top class.

🧠A Weekly Dose of Psychology You Didn’t Know You Needed 🧠

Hi everyone! I’m Maya, I hold an Honours Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science and Psychology (basically, I can analyze both a crime scene and your overly complicated coffee order). I’m also an incoming Master of Arts candidate in Counselling Psychology, which means I spend a lot of time thinking about how the human brain works, and why it sometimes does the exact opposite of what we want it to do.

Psych Fact #39: Your brain can turn silence into something uncomfortable… even when nothing is wrong.

Ever been in an elevator, a meeting, or even just sitting with someone, and the silence suddenly feels loud? That’s not the situation. That’s your brain.

Humans are wired to look for social cues, and when those cues disappear, the brain tries to fill in the gaps. It starts asking questions like “Should I say something?” or “Is this awkward?” even if the other person is perfectly content.

The interesting part is that silence itself isn’t inherently uncomfortable. It’s your brain’s interpretation of it. In some cultures, and contexts, silence is actually a sign of comfort and trust.

But when your brain can’t “read” what’s happening, it leans toward uncertainty, and uncertainty often feels like discomfort.

So, if you ever feel the urge to fill silence just to break it, it’s not because something is wrong. Your brain just doesn’t love not having a script.

Until next time,
Maya 🧠✨

CHRIS’ CORNER

My Sports Bucket List

Everyone has a bucket list in some form or another of things they want to do or see or places to visit.

I have a couple of bucket list categories and one of them is attending major sports events in person. Not all of them, but a small list.

And the great news is I got to cross one off the list last weekend in Buffalo. I had a last-minute invite for an extra ticket to March Madness, so of course I took it.

The full story and photos of that adventure can be found at the link below the byline. Check it out when you get a chance.

It also made me take stock of what bucket list events were now left on my list.
Hopefully, this summer I’ll get into one of the FIFA World Cup matches either in Toronto or
maybe even south of the border. If not, I’ll have to pre-book my trip to Spain, Portugal and
Morocco in four years’ time.

Other soccer matches/events I must see include the Euros, the Champions League final, and the Rome Derby between AS Roma and Lazio.

In terms of other sports, my personal bucket list includes the US Open (tennis), Wimbledon (tennis), the Masters at Augusta (golf), the Ryder Cup (golf), the Super Bowl, and the NBA Finals.

If I were to attend any other major events like the Olympics or the World Series or the Stanley Cup finals, those would be great, but not as great for me as the ones on my list.

Hopefully, I’ll be able to keep crossing them off in the years to come!
