Toronto Hidden Gem 🏒🍔
Have you ever been to the Ford Performance Centre on Kipling?
Most people know it as the practice facility for the Toronto Maple Leafs and a great place to watch youth hockey. My daughter plays there with the Dolphins, so I’m in the rink quite a bit.
But here’s the part people don’t know…
The snack bar burgers are incredible.
Apparently it’s run by a local Peruvian family, and the burgers are honestly some of the best rink burgers you’ll find anywhere. And the fries and gravy? Next level.
I actually have friends from Etobicoke who come to the arena just for the burger.
So, if you’re in Etobicoke this winter and looking for a great burger, fries, gravy, and maybe a glimpse of a Maple Leaf skating by, this is a fun little outing.
Plus, while you’re there, you might catch the next 10-year-old Sidney Crosby or Emma Woods lighting up the scoreboard.
Sometimes the best spots in Toronto are hiding in plain sight.
TECH SPOTLIGHT

Quantum tech might be the next big breakthrough in medicine
When people hear “quantum computing,” they usually think faster computers. But researchers say the real story is much bigger — the technology could fundamentally change how we understand biology, disease, and the human body.
Experts describe quantum computing as a major shift in how data can be modeled and analyzed. Instead of simply speeding up existing calculations, it allows scientists to simulate incredibly complex systems that were previously impossible to study in detail. Companies like Oxford Ionics and IonQ are already working on applying these tools to life sciences, particularly drug discovery.
One of the biggest opportunities lies in designing medicines faster and more accurately. Traditional computers struggle to model how molecules interact inside the human body, which is why developing a new drug often takes 10–15 years and billions of dollars. Quantum computers, however, can simulate molecular interactions at a much deeper level. In theory, that means researchers could test potential drugs virtually before ever creating them in a lab, saving years of trial-and-error.
Quantum technology could also transform medical diagnostics. New sensing technologies may allow doctors to detect extremely faint biological signals — like the tiny magnetic fields generated by the heart. That could lead to earlier detection of diseases such as coronary artery problems that standard tests sometimes miss.
And the possibilities don’t stop there. Quantum computing may help unlock precision medicine, where treatments are tailored to a person’s unique genetic makeup. By analyzing massive genetic datasets faster than current systems can handle, researchers could identify disease risks earlier and develop more personalized therapies.
In other words, quantum technology might not just make computers faster — it could help doctors diagnose diseases sooner, develop drugs quicker, and design treatments that are customized for each patient. If those possibilities become reality, the next medical revolution might come not from a new pill, but from a new kind of computer. 🧬⚛️

🧠A Weekly Dose of Psychology You Didn’t Know You Needed 🧠
Hi everyone! I’m Maya, I hold an Honours Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science and Psychology (basically, I can analyze both a crime scene and your overly complicated coffee order). I’m also an incoming Master of Arts candidate in Counselling Psychology, which means I spend a lot of time thinking about how the human brain works, and why it sometimes does the exact opposite of what we want it to do.
Psych Fact #37: Your brain actually enjoys solving small mysteries.
Ever notice how satisfying it feels when you finally remember the name of a song that was stuck in your head, solve a word puzzle, or figure out where you’ve seen someone before? That little moment of “aha!” isn’t just mental relief. Your brain actually releases a small burst of dopamine when you solve a problem or uncover a missing piece of information.
Psychologists call this the information gap. When your brain realizes there’s something it almost knows but can’t quite access yet, it becomes motivated to close that gap. That’s why cliffhangers in TV shows work so well and why random trivia questions can be oddly addictive.
The brain loves the chase for answers just as much as the answers themselves.
So if you ever find yourself deep in a rabbit hole trying to remember an actor’s name or Googling a random fact at midnight, don’t worry. Your brain is just enjoying a tiny mystery.
Until next time,
Maya 🧠✨

CHRIS’ CORNER

Bradley Derby in Toronto
The Toronto FC home opener is on tap for today (Saturday, March 14) at 1 p.m. at BMO Field down by the lake.
The overall mood should be relatively positive – or perhaps caustiously optimistic – after the Reds took a 1-0 result away to Cincinnati on Sunday.
After allowing six goals in two matches to start the season (3-2 against Dallas, 3-0 against Vancouver), it was a nice change of pace.
Acknowledging the club is in a transitionary and building stage, they should still be looking for a full result against their former captain Michael Bradley, who is returning as coach of the New York Red Bulls.
Seeing as this week’s visiting team fell 3-0 to CF Montreal last weekend, there is no reason the home team won’t be able to put up a solid performance and get some result – either a draw or a win – in front of fans looking for anything to cheer for this season.
Plus, they just can’t let the Red Bulls boss them around on their own pitch – especially with a club legend like Bradley looking on.
This new-look TFC squad needs to show their supporters that this year is a growth year where it’s going to be fun to be at the stadium every time the Reds are at home.
In that vein, I believe they’ll put on a good show in the home opener and give the fans something to cheer about. The loyal supporters and season ticket members definitely deserve it.
If TFC can pick up a win and even out their record, the talk of a playoff spot will arise.
Earlier this week, on my Patreon member exclusive podcast bonus show (join the growing sports community in the link below), I asked about this team making a push for the playoffs.
I feel they’ll make a push, but my cohosts Joe and John are among the naysayers that don’t believe this team is anywhere close to doing so this season.
In any case, we’ll just have to wait and see.
