SFD SATURDAY MORNING WEEKLY 110
Have I done Sash before? I can't remember but who cares, it needs another mention. I was planning a quick dinner with an old friend/customer (of copiers ;)) and our wives. I know he hates when I do this, but my buddy’s grandfather also once owned the Leaf’s, yes, the Leaf’s! How cool is that???? Ok, back to the food.
FRANKIE’S FAVOURITE EATERIES

Have I done Sash before? I can't remember but who cares, it needs another mention. I was planning a quick dinner with an old friend/customer (of copiers ;)) and our wives. I know he hates when I do this, but my buddy’s grandfather also once owned the Leaf’s, yes, the Leaf’s! How cool is that???? Ok, back to the food.
I wanted to hit a place I hadn't had in a while and not just one of those hip spots in Toronto. I thought to myself - Sash!
If you don't know it, Sash has been around for a while, it's lower mid-town and the chef is probably one of the most talented guys on the food scene. I first met him 20+ years ago when my buddy Stan took me to North 44 (upper mid-town and I think closed now) where he was the chef. The food was dynamic there and even more so at Sash.
We arrived and they had a cool little DJ at the door, subtle volume but great vibes. I went right up to the kitchen and reminded him that my buddy Stan told me I could get the off menu parathas, Chana and some rice as a starter and he agreed. Sash (named after the chef) is an Indian guy and has an incredible story, as a matter of fact I think there is a movie coming out about him, or it has already come out.
We also had the oysters (delicious), a tuna tartare, and hmmmm something else as an appetizer. We then ordered our mains; dover sole all around except for one pasta ala vodka. The mains were fabulous as usual and pre our mains we were asked about the dessert chocolate soufflé - as you know, I'm not a huge dessert guy but because it takes so long to bake and they didn't have creme brûlée on the menu, so I asked for one to split with 4 spoons. It was great.
We shared some great drinks and wines and had a great night, meeting some other friends for a cocktail at the bar after dinner. Sash was there and invited us to an evening of Indian food sometime in April. I hope I can make it. If you haven't been, Sash is awesome, delicious, not cheap but worth every penny.
Have a great day :) and thanks for reading.
TECH SPOTLIGHT

A new wave of tech drama is unfolding around Flock Safety — and it’s not happening in a boardroom.
Across the U.S., communities are pushing back against the company’s license plate reader cameras, with some residents taking protest into their own hands (and, in a few cases, power tools). Reports highlight damaged and dismantled cameras from La Mesa to Oregon, reflecting mounting frustration over how surveillance data is accessed and shared.
Flock’s network — reportedly nearing 80,000 cameras nationwide — allows authorities to log where vehicles travel and when. While the company says it doesn’t directly share data with federal immigration enforcement, critics argue that local access can still open the door to broader federal use.
The debate touches on bigger questions shaping today’s tech landscape: Who controls data? How transparent should surveillance systems be? And what happens when public consent lags behind deployment?
Whether through city council meetings or more dramatic acts of resistance, one thing is clear — communities are demanding a louder voice in how surveillance technology shows up in their neighborhoods.

Leake Street Tunnel - one tunnel, endless art
Leake Street Tunnel is loud, messy, colourful and completely addictive and if you’re anywhere near Waterloo and fancy a dose of wow, please duck into Leake Street Tunnel — London’s grungiest, most joyful open-air (well… underground) art space.
This 300-metre tunnel sits beneath the train tracks and is completely covered in graffiti. Walls, ceilings, corners — nothing is off limits. What makes it magic? It’s legal. Artists can paint here freely, so the artwork is constantly changing. Visit twice in the same week and it’ll feel like a different place.
The tunnel shot to fame in 2008 when Banksy hosted a street art festival here, and it’s been a living canvas ever since. You’ll see huge murals, tiny tags, political messages, playful characters — and often artists mid-spray.
It smells of paint, hums with creativity, and feels very London.
Best of all? It’s free, open 24/7, and gloriously imperfect.
Just beyond the tunnel you’ll find the Leake Street Arches — a cluster of independent eateries, bars and entertainment spaces that extend the vibe. Grab a bite or a drink, then head back underground for another round of colour and creativity.

100 WEEKS OF POSITIVE MESSAGES
Frankie did 100 days of positive messages 3 years ago. He wanted to center them around mental health and positivity. We will post them each week for 100 weeks.

“When you love to think and tinker with ideas, the nap is very very important.
But, what l've come to realize is that there should be two
naps.
Basically you wake up do your work stuff in the morning...
Then have a nap. 30 mins around 12ish.
Then you have a nice lunch and go about your day...
Just as you get home you add a 15 to 20 minute nap so that you can give your family the same respect you gave your colleagues, friends and customers.
So, there you go, 2 naps ;)
If you need more tips, call me in 30 after my nap.”
🧠A Weekly Dose of Psychology You Didn’t Know You Needed 🧠
Hi everyone! I’m Maya, I hold an Honours Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science and Psychology (basically, I can analyze both a crime scene and your overly complicated coffee order). I’m also an incoming Master of Arts candidate in Counselling Psychology, which means I spend a lot of time thinking about how the human brain works, and why it sometimes does the exact opposite of what we want it to do.
Psych Fact #35: Your brain is terrible at predicting what will make you happy.
There’s a psychological concept called affective forecasting, which basically means we’re constantly trying to predict how future events will make us feel. The strange part? We’re not very good at it.
We tend to overestimate how happy a promotion, purchase, or big achievement will make us, and we overestimate how long disappointment will last when something goes wrong. Your brain exaggerates emotional outcomes in both directions.
Why? Because when imagining the future, the brain zooms in on the main event and forgets all the small, normal life details that will still be happening around it. You picture the spotlight moment, not the regular Tuesday that follows.
This explains why major wins feel exciting but then quietly normalize, and why setbacks often sting less over time than you expected.
So, if you’re waiting for one big thing to change everything, your brain might be overselling it. Day-to-day experiences tend to shape your well-being far more than the dramatic milestones do.
Until next time,
Maya 🧠✨

Trying to get Excited About Toronto FC

It seems like yesterday we were saying goodbye to another season without a playoff appearance for our beloved Toronto FC.
It was actually in October and since then a myriad of changes have occurred with several player exits – including some I really liked – and a few new faces joining the team.
Unfortunately, no one is really exciting me. Not even the newest designated player Josh Sargeant, a 22-year-old striker with loads of talent.
Now, I will always be a huge fan of our Canadian contingent particularly captain Jonathan Osorio and Richie Laryea, the hard-working Kobe Franklin, and the returning Raheem Edwards.
But there are a lot of players who I just haven’t found myself able to connect with like I could with many of the past European players – be it Italian or Spanish.
I would love to see the Reds find a couple young diamonds in the rough from one of those nations, or even Argentina or Uruguay. There are many free agents on the transfer market available, and surely some loans could be negotiated with teams looking to get some young guys regular playing time.
Still, there is potential to develop connections with guys like Djorde Mihailovic, Alonso Coello and others, but the results need to come first.
On that note, despite a valiant effort and going toe-to-toe away to Dallas on the opening weekend last Saturday, they fell 3-2 with a late goal after twice tying the game up.
It was the kind of late loss that has become synonymous with the once mighty TFC in recent years. However, there were some bright spots on the offensive side, and that gives me hope.
The team is next in action February 28 at Vancouver. Game time is 9:30 p.m. and all Apple TV subscribers can watch it.
I’ll be watching and hoping for a win … it would go a long way to helping me connect better with the current iteration of this team.
That’s it for me! Ciao for Now!
