FRANKIE’S FAVOURITE EATERIES

Miami bites with a pie 🍕 that rivals anything you could find in Rome.

I spent a few days in Miami last week with a buddy on his boat. We pulled up to the Standard which is a cute hotel resto on the water (rooms are hipster motely vibe) and restaurant serves a fun clientele.

While waiting for our table I bumped into a cool guy who said I must try his pizza place called DC Pie Co. This man could sell, I mean better than me, I think 🤔.  He convinced me to try it on that trip.

By the way, the food at the Standard that day was also dynamite, we had a steak salad to start and a few appetizers, but this is about DC Pie Co.

Let's Start. Baked pepperoni bites! Baked pepperoni bites served with honey 🍯 (OMG). Pizzas with the best and freshest toppings ever seen. Delicious baked chicken wings. They don't fry anything here that's when you're going to be surprised when I say this. They have by FAR the best eggplant sandwich I've ever tried, by FAR!!!  The eggplant is so perfect and from what I was told, the eggplant is only male eggplant without the seeds so it's never sour. It's baked, crusted, and put in a delicious bun with lettuce, onion, tomato, cheese (of course), and a light creamy ricotta (that tastes like a mayo) on top - putting the whole sandwich together for what in my opinion in my favourite sandwich of the year. I'm sorry California Sandwiches but you've got some serious competition when it comes to a sandwich. The meatballs were dynamic and red sauce was straight up Nonna style. Everything is done in house with the finest ingredients ever.

If you're in Miami Brickell this is the spot for pizza and a sandwich. Apparently, they have bowls too. I’ll try that next time. I'll be back for sure. I've attached my YouTube review, it's saucy.

TECH SPOTLIGHT

ChatGPT Gets Ads (But Tries to Be Cool About It)

Big news from the AI world: ChatGPT is starting to test ads for users on the Free and Go plans. Before you imagine pop-ups yelling “BUY THIS NOW” mid-sentence—breathe. OpenAI says the ads won’t influence answers, won’t peek into your personal data, and will be clearly labeled as sponsored. Think “polite billboard,” not “interrupting infomercial.”

Paid users (Plus, Pro, Business, etc.) stay ad-free, while the new $8/month Go plan sits in that “cheap coffee per month” zone—with ads helping foot the massive AI electricity bill. The idea is simple: keep the core experience intact while using ads to make the fancy features more accessible to more people.

There’s been some playful (and not-so-playful) industry roasting about this, but OpenAI insists the line between answers and ads will stay bright and bold. You’ll even be able to see, dismiss, and manage the ads you get. So yes—ChatGPT is growing up, paying rent, and putting up a few sponsored posters on the wall. Let’s just hope they stay tasteful. 😅

100 WEEKS OF POSITIVE MESSAGES

Frankie did 100 days of positive messages 3 years ago. He wanted to center them around mental health and positivity. We will post them each week for 100 weeks.

It's not just you...

What I have noticed is that almost everyone thinks the same things.

I am someone who loves to talk to people and get to know people from all walks of life. I am a people lover. I also can't handle food or other temptations in front of me, I am weak from that standpoint but that's a topic for another day.

What I have learned throughout many conversations is that we all have similar fears, wants, anxieties and desires.

Some people are simply luckier than others and negative things follow certain people as well.

Thave noticed that luck definitely rewards the positive thinkers.

I believe negative thinking can make things happen and not only when it comes to your health like contributing to things like cancers and blood pressures but also in life with your careers and relationships.

Something that I have learned throughout this journey is that I don't need to react immediately when things comes up.

Whether it's work thing, a friend thing, a health thing or any other thing that comes up. You can have a pause to think.

I definitely overreacted over the years wanting to make immediate decisions and some worst case scenario thinking. This did me no favours.

What I've realized is that most things don't need to be solved instantly.

Positive thinking is critical. I am not suggesting that you should be delusional with your ideas but knowing that everything can be accomplished with many littles steps put together is important.

Figure out one little step first and then figure out another after that but always have a positive goal in mind.

We are ALL crazy.

Everyone is a control freak.

If you are having a hard time articulating something to a friend, a colleague or to yourself.

Take a step back and explain what your expectations are.

The grayness and ambiguity are the problem in most cases.

Learn to communicate and be clear because everyone is crazy and generally thinking about themselves more than you.

🧠A Weekly Dose of Psychology You Didn’t Know You Needed 🧠

Hi everyone! I’m Maya, I hold an Honours Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science and Psychology (basically, I can analyze both a crime scene and your overly complicated coffee order). I’m also an incoming Master of Arts candidate in Counselling Psychology, which means I spend a lot of time thinking about how the human brain works, and why it sometimes does the exact opposite of what we want it to do.

Psych Fact #34: Your brain reacts to kindness in February the same way it reacts to rewards.

Around Valentine’s Day, people tend to think in terms of big gestures, but psychologically, small acts of kindness have a surprisingly powerful effect on the brain. When you do something kind or receive kindness, your brain releases dopamine and oxytocin, chemicals linked to motivation, trust, and well-being.

Here’s the lesser-known part: your brain doesn’t care much whether the kindness is romantic, friendly, or even directed at a stranger. Holding a door, leaving a nice note, or helping someone out still activates the same reward pathways.

Even more interesting, studies show that witnessing kindness can trigger a similar response. Your brain gets a boost just from seeing good things happen.

So this time of year, it turns out you don’t need grand gestures to give your brain a lift. Small, everyday kindnesses count more than we think and your brain keeps the score.

Until next time,
Maya 🧠✨

CHRIS’ CORNER

The Olympics Is Almost Done

It always feels like the Olympics just fly by so fast. Day after day, event after event, medal after medal, and then . . . poof! It’s done.

I have enjoyed these 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milano-Cortina. Maybe Canada didn’t get the number of medals we would have wanted to see, but cheering on the host Italians to their most ever medals (with a handful of events left) has been wonderful.

Some of my favourite highlights of the games coming into the final weekend include Parry Sound's Megan Oldham winning gold and bronze in freestyle skiing and Quebec's Mikaël Kingsbury killing it at moguls for a double gold.

For the home side, two 35-year-old women are racking up the golds with speed skater Francesca Lollobrigida and alpine skier Federica Brignone each ending up with two first place medals and the honour of hearing their national anthem played in front of adoring supporters.

As well, the Italian women’s hockey team pulling out a couple of victories and qualifying for the quarterfinals for the first time ever.

How about the performance of Canadian speedskater Courtney Sarault of Moncton, N.B. She became the first Canadian short track speed skater to win four medals in a single Olympic Games, winning two silvers (women's 1,000-metre and mixed relay team) and two bronzes (women’s 500 m and 3,000-metre relay).

There were but a few of the many fantastic performances from athletes and nations that are close to my heart.

Meanwhile there have been eight Olympic records and one World Record set at the 2026 Winter Games . . . See the details at Records Broken in 2026.

On that note, I hope the last weekend is as good as the days leading up to it.

That’s it for me! Ciao for Now!
