Chinese food in Paris? Yep, I’ve been travelling with a friend who loves to try a real Chinatown whenever he hits a city. We were told that the real Chinatown is near Place d’Italie in the 3rd. Our plan is to go there, but everyone was craving it, and right near us was what I would call my favourite Chinese restaurant in Paris.

We ate at Diep often when we lived here. Diep is not far from the Champs-Élysées and is a staple for people who know the area in the 16th. Diep has low ceilings, deep dark decor, and a very nice feel. It’s what I would call an elevated Chinese restaurant, not your typical dim sum spot—let’s put it that way. In Toronto, I would compare it to Dynasty, but better.

We had a LOT of dishes; it was the night after a big night, and everyone was craving this kind of thing. We had the hot and sour soup, deep-fried calamari, har gow, long shrimp noodles, fried rice, peppered beef (my friend Vern is Indian and NEEDS beef every time he leaves Delhi), beef rice noodles, and many, many other dishes, but those were all a hit.

The dishes here are not too salty and all taste so, so super fresh. Diep never disappoints if you’re craving Chinese in Paris.

I know many people are about to travel to Paris shortly, as this becomes a great time to visit. We lived there for many years, and we often return. We have a list of things to do and restos to hit that we send to friends. If you would like that list, please DM me and I’ll forward it to you.

Have a great weekend!

TECH SPOTLIGHT

Okay, this one’s a total tail-wagger 🐾

Ring just turned the neighborhood into a high-tech dog-finding squad. Its AI-powered “Search Party” feature—basically Amber Alert energy but for pups—can now be used by anyone through the Ring app, even if you don’t own a Ring camera. If a dog goes missing, nearby cameras scan footage for possible matches, and if your furry escape artist pops up on someone’s camera, that neighbor can share the clip or message you without swapping phone numbers. Smooth, helpful, and delightfully non-awkward.

Since launching last fall, Ring says the feature has been reuniting more than one dog per day with their humans (cue the happy tears). And because this is a rare tech story that’s wholesome all the way down, Ring is also committing $1 million to outfit animal shelters with camera systems—aiming to help 4,000 shelters get more good boys and girls back home.

Big tech doesn’t always get to be the hero of a dog movie, but today? Roll the credits. 🐶✨

OTHER POSH THINGS

MARIE ANTOINETTE, fashion queen

Not everyone is lucky enough to have a friend who is possibly the Marie Antoinette re-incarnated. I do have such a friend.

I glided along to the exhibition titled Marie Antionette Style at London's Victoria & Albert Museum together with my dear friend Karen-Marie-Antoinette-Schneid (founder of Ooh La La Confectionery) — obsessed with that period - is putting it lightly. The excess, the rituals, the symbolism stitched into every ribbon and bow. Some eras deserve to be witnessed with someone who truly gets it!

The exhibition opened gently, then pulled us deeper into a world where clothes were never just clothes. The historic dresses are extraordinary — towering silk gowns in pastel shades, heavy with embroidery, metallic threads catching the light, bodices engineered to perfection. We could almost feel the physical weight of them, and by extension, the expectations placed on the woman who inspired them.

But what makes this exhibition particularly compelling is how it bridges past and present. Alongside the 18th-century garments are dresses inspired by Marie Antoinette’s enduring influence — from cinema to couture. There are pieces referencing Sofia Coppola’s cult film Marie Antoinette, where historical accuracy meets modern irreverence, and designs by fashion houses and creatives who continue to mine her aesthetic for drama and romance.

You see echoes of her style in corseted silhouettes, exaggerated skirts, soft pastels, and unapologetic femininity — from designers like Dior to the punk-inflected rebellion of Vivienne Westwood. It’s fascinating to realise how one woman’s image still shapes how we think about luxury, excess, and feminine power centuries later.

The artwork woven throughout adds emotional depth — portraits that feel staged and performative next to more intimate objects that hint at the woman behind the myth.

This exhibition really invited us to linger, to question, to look again, and again taking it all in.

We took our time, drifting from room to room, lapping up every bit of information and stitching.

There was something deeply moving about seeing history not as something frozen, but as something alive — influencing fashion, film, and how we tell stories about women.

This exhibition isn’t just about Marie Antoinette the queen. It’s about image, influence, and the complicated legacy of beauty. Lavish, layered, and surprisingly human — exactly my kind of history. 🍿✨

FRANKIE’S SONG OF THE WEEK

A lot of people have been forwarding me house music lately, not sure why but here's a good one I got recently.

100 WEEKS OF POSITIVE MESSAGES

Frankie did 100 days of positive messages 3 years ago. He wanted to center them around mental health and positivity. We will post them each week for 100 weeks.

56/100

Let's just say I had a few too many Negronis last night at the Depeche mode concert.

I am not feeling 100%. The brain is at 40 percent, but I will shortly inspire myself to hit the pavement for a walk.

The concert was better than the last time they were in town where they barely played any of the hits.

This time they played a few but they missed people are people, somebody and Blasphemous rumours which are my faves.

Oh well.

I know a lot of people who get a crazy amount of anxiety in the mornings after having a few drinks the night before.

They are so worried about something they did or said.

Let's just say l'm not one of those people but probably should be

So, l've decided to give you a few lists below of things you can do or look forward to. I know for some people lists can help ease their anxieties.

I have always loved older people, this is a little list of things that many regret as they age.

  1. Not Settling a feud with a family member, a friend or a colleague

  2. Taking too few chances

  3. Not Saying what they felt and not being honest

  4. Worrying far too much

  5. Not travelling enough

  6. Wished they'd had more FUN

  7. Took care of their bodies

So, I wouldn't wait for that perfect opportunity to do these things above.

Remember,

Go out and wear jeans to a workout if you're nearby the club.

Grab a used pair of skis and try a hill.

Hop on a discounted flight and stay in a hostel in new city.

Grab a pen, a paper and write some ideas down.

Reach out to that friend who is mad and say sorry first.

Ask for that date, Girls can ask a boys Btw.

Fill your life each day with some fun.

Drop the guilt and go for it.

Do you really care what other people think?

Isn't your happiness more important than some little squabble ?

Let things go!

Make a list of the twenty things you want to do before you die.

Make a list of the 20 movies you want to watch.

Make a list of the people you want to meet.

Start knocking off those lists.

Don't wait until the time is right because it never will be.

What is on your bucket list?

🧠A Weekly Dose of Psychology You Didn’t Know You Needed 🧠

Hi everyone! I’m Maya, I hold an Honours Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science and Psychology (basically, I can analyze both a crime scene and your overly complicated coffee order). I’m also an incoming Master of Arts candidate in Counselling Psychology, which means I spend a lot of time thinking about how the human brain works, and why it sometimes does the exact opposite of what we want it to do.

Psych Fact #32: Your brain edits your memories like a highlight reel, not a recording.

Most people think memory works like a video file. It doesn’t. Every time you remember something, your brain rebuilds it using bits and pieces, then saves it again. That means your memories quietly change over time, even when you’re sure they’re accurate.

This is why two people can remember the same event differently and both feel completely confident they’re right. It’s also why stories from your childhood sometimes get funnier, shorter, or more dramatic every time you tell them. Your brain is polishing the highlights, not preserving the raw footage.

The wild part?
Each time you recall a memory, you slightly rewrite it. So your brain isn’t just a storage unit. It’s an editor with a flair for storytelling.

If you’ve ever said “I swear it didn’t happen like that,” congratulations. That’s just two brains running different cuts of the same movie.

Until next time,
Maya 🧠✨

CHRIS’ CORNER

Speed Skating is my Favourite Olympic Event

Racing around a track on skates with elongated blades has always seemed like such a fun sport.

The blades slicing into the ice, razor sharp turns, planning a bully move to inch ahead of an opponent and coming within millimetres of pushing them down . . . It’s all so exciting!

Seeing as I don’t have the necessary skills to compete in it, the next best thing is admiring those who are the world’s best do their thing on long and short speed skating tracks.

And the very best moments happen during the Olympic Winter Games.

Crashes and clips that result in judge’s decisions on whether to disqualify one or both participants or teams, emotional moments of winning a medal and hugging your friend from another country who also made to the podium, couples who both compete and cheer each other on in every event, and the list goes on.

But, perhaps I really fell in love with the sport because at the Olympics usually the two countries I cheer for – Canada and Italia – do quite well in speed skating.

Athletes and relay teams from those nations are always in the mix for a medal, especially on the short track . . . they don’t always win, but they’re almost always in the final with a chance.

Since speed skating was in the Olympics, Team Canada has won 42 total medals. They won 5 in Beijing 2022 out matching their Vancouver 2010 result, while their top haul was in 2006 in Torino with 8 speed skating medals. Back in Italia this year could be a really good thing for the Canadians.

Meanwhile, the host nation only really started having speed skating success in 2006, picking up three medals including gold in the men’s relay. They also had 3 speed skating medals in Beijing. Back home for this year, Italia could also be in for a successful time on the track.

For all the above reasons and more, speed skating is my favourite Winter Games event and I’m eager to see what happens in Milano-Cortina over the next few weeks. On that note: Go Canada Go and Forza Italia!

That’s it for me this week . . . Ciao for Now!
