Greek spots!
If you're from Toronto, you know what I'm talking about. We have so many great Greek joints that serve you a chicken skewer plate often behind a long table where you see what's going on your plate.
It's one of my favourite things to have, plus I'm obsessed with tzatziki (Nikkie and Olga- bow down) with some salad that has feta, peppers, onion, tomato, and a few olives on top. Each spot has their "own" dressing which is laid on the salad through a squirt bottle and from time to time the chicken is dipped in that dressing before it goes on the grill.
Those chicken plates are always accompanied by rice, fries, and truly my fave, the Greek potatoes. Yes, the Greek potatoes. Personally, I make the Greek potatoes often. I take potatoes, cut the in wedges of any size medium, small, or even large from time to time. I put them in a one inch pan and cover them with one cup of olive oil, one or two cups of chicken broth (if you don't have broth a chicken soup cube will do) and top it off with water just covering the potatoes. I squeeze one lemon, two chopped pieces of garlic, a small handful of oregano a throw those in the pan with the potatoes. I give the pan a good stir, I even throw those lemons in with skin, turn the oven on to 250c and wait one hour stirring once or twice at 30mins and 45mins flipping the charred bits and voila!
Back to the Greek joints. Your chicken plate is often topped with tzatziki and for me you rate the Greek joint on the tzatziki and the chicken. Much like Pho spots are rated on their broth and spring rolls ;) Back to Greek joints Frankie. Ok ok.
Here are my favourite hot table style Greek joints in Toronto.
Crew - the old Jessie's. Very delicious near Kennedy and Matheson.
Zets - by the Airport of course
Apparently, the Greek Freak is great, and some people are saying the Souvlaki Hut hits the spot as well.
Do you have fave that I should try?
TECH SPOTLIGHT

TikTok Gets a Very American Makeover
After six years of political side-eye and more “Is TikTok getting banned?” headlines than anyone can count, the app has officially found a way to stay in the U.S. — and it involves a brand-new, majority American-owned company.
TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, has struck a deal with a group of non-Chinese investors to form TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC, a new entity designed to keep the app running stateside and calm national security nerves. In other words: TikTok isn’t going anywhere, at least not yet.
Leading the new venture is Adam Presser, formerly TikTok’s head of operations and trust and safety, stepping in as CEO. Current TikTok CEO Shou Chew will stay involved as a director, keeping a foot in both worlds.
The investor lineup reads like a tech and finance all-star team. Oracle, Silver Lake, and Abu Dhabi-based MGX will each take a 15% stake, joined by Michael Dell’s family investment firm and several smaller players. The new company promises tighter controls around data protection, algorithms, content moderation, and software security — all with U.S. users in mind.
Even former President Trump weighed in, celebrating the deal as a win for “Great American Patriots and Investors,” and declaring TikTok an “important Voice.”
So for now, the dances, trends, and oddly specific niche content can continue uninterrupted — just with a much more American passport.

I've been loving this track lately,
100 WEEKS OF POSITIVE MESSAGES
Frankie did 100 days of positive messages 3 years ago. He wanted to center them around mental health and positivity. We will post them each week for 100 weeks.

55/100
“Nobody had my back like Brianna. I can’t even imagine what it was like for her. First of all, the embarrassment that everyone feels when you go through stuff like this and then the feeling of being alone.
I always said that when you marry someone, you need to find a way to love them more than your BLOOD family. As children we think up and we think about our parents being this unit. We don’t learn until later that they had their own families that had their own sets of issues and complexities.
So, when you have someone who loves you, I would cherish them even more than your own parents and siblings. They are with you living in the same house and you are raising creatures together.
This may seem normal to some people but to others it seems totally foreign. Some people love to talk about family or some patriarchal loyalty, yet somehow forget about their partner that they are raising a family with as if somehow they are not their family? It’s very bizarre.
My parents, my brother and my friends stood by me and never let me feel like I didn’t have them. Oscar and Perle always made me feel loved even though I didn’t know how to show it back.
But, nobody had my back like Brianna.
While I don’t like to call colleagues family, the office is more like a team but, they supported me like family does. Tito made it to the hospital every Sunday with samosas for all of us at Maui.
When I was down they let me have space and lifted me up giving me a couch to sleep on and creating an atmosphere to know they had my back.
Your work team needs to lift each other as well. Give people at your offices a chance, everyone is going back to something in their lives that they likely won’t open up about.
I am very lucky to have had those support systems. Many people don’t have them but you can always lend a hand.
Please remember this, most people who are struggling with mental health don’t even know they need support and would never ask for it.
Reach out and check on your homies.
A friend of mine once said that GOD is the acronym for Good Orderly Direction, I always liked that.”
🧠A Weekly Dose of Psychology You Didn’t Know You Needed 🧠
Hi everyone! I’m Maya, I hold an Honours Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science and Psychology (basically, I can analyze both a crime scene and your overly complicated coffee order). I’m also an incoming Master of Arts candidate in Counselling Psychology, which means I spend a lot of time thinking about how the human brain works, and why it sometimes does the exact opposite of what we want it to do.
Psych Fact #31: Your brain treats your phone like a person.
When you hear your phone buzz, your brain reacts in a way that’s surprisingly similar to how it reacts when someone calls your name. The sound becomes a social cue, not just a noise. That’s why phantom vibrations feel so real and why ignoring a notification can feel oddly uncomfortable.
Psychologically, your brain links notifications to the possibility of connection, approval, or important information. Over time, the brain learns to prioritize that sound, even when nothing is actually there.
This is also why checking your phone can become automatic. It’s not habit alone. It’s your brain scanning for social relevance.
So if you ever reach for your phone and realize there was no buzz at all, don’t worry. Your brain just thought someone was talking to you.
Until next time,
Maya 🧠✨

Wonderful Tennis Down Under
Waking up early and putting on top level tennis is a wonderful thing.
That’s the beauty of the Australian Open, the first grand slam tournament of the year, as it provides great hardcourt play, not too many upsets, and sets us up with storylines for the next 11 months.
Here are the ones I’m already looking forward to for this year of professional tennis.
Can either of the Top 2 ranked players – Carlos Alcaraz or Jannik Sinner – win the calendar year Grand Slam? Will tennis’ GOAT, Novak Djokovic, win another Grand Slam this year?
He already has the most in history at 24, but can he win another one at 38 years old?
Will Lorenzo Musetti take yet another step in his career and win a Grand Slam, or at least be in a final?
Is Aryna Sabalenka just too good to be beat in any tournament this year? Or can Iga Swiatek rediscover her brilliance and fight back?
Can Canadian youngster Victoria Mboko continue her ascent this year and win some big tournaments?
Will the rest of the Canadian contingent bounce back from a relatively uninspiring Aussie Open performance to put on an overall good showing in 2026 and win some tournaments or go deep in the slams?
After the Aussie Open finishes up this weekend, we may have even more questions that need answering. The most fun will be seeing how the season plays out.
That’s it for me! Ciao for Now!
