Aspen!

Have you been? I've spent a lot of time in Colorado over the years, but Aspen was off the radar, until recently. I've been there half a dozen times. Who's kidding who, it's great. The sun shines and the snow is fabulous.

The town is super cute and there are 4 hills to choose from - each with their own benefits. I'd say we ski most at the Main Ajax mountain at the bottom of the little town. The town for those who don't ski is small, but it's like being in a scaled down Beverly Hills, except it’s in the hills of Colorado. Known for the shopping, the eating, and the glitz and glamour. It's not your regular kinda place. Aspen is Aspen for a reason.

As you know, I'm not a dessert guy but while I was there last week, let's just say, I indulged. The top desserts of the weekend went like this. #1 Matsuhisa - they have a huge, shaved ice dessert where you pour over condensed milk, filtered jams, and caramel over it that has ice cream and fruit at the bottom. It's Insane! Like totally insane.

#2 Sant Ambroeus - we had the ricotta cheesecake 👀 ! I know Poland recently won best cheesecake on the planet but let me tell you, and it's hard for me to admit. This cheesecake takes the cake. Not too sweet, not too thick or thin and just creamy enough. If you love cheesecake like I do and you hit Sant Ambroeus (I believe it's in a few other cities as well) then try this cheesecake.

#3 Paradise Ice cream - our last night we skipped dessert at the restaurant and hit this place. It’s right in the heart of the village, truthfully everything is right in the heart of the village. You barely need a car; it's so walkable and the little trolley buses are free. Let's get back to the Ice cream. OMG - insane. Insane. Insane.

Every time I come to Aspen I initially come for the skiing, but the food is over the top. There is even this great little local place called Bonnie's on the hill that serves the greatest oatmeal pancakes I've ever tried. Be careful. It gets pretty packed in there and the food can take a long time to arrive but it's worth it. Don't say I didn't warn you about the wait.

A funny little story from Aspen happened a few years back. I was bouncing around one of those fancy bars having a little fun in an older hotel in the heart of the city - I think Hotel Jerome or Germain, where people wear furs, cowboy hats, and old school band tee shirts. I was working the room just chatting it up and getting the room going a bit when an older gentleman in his 70s (a real Aspenite) came up to me and said "Hey kid, I see what you're doing, the next time you're chatting with a girl around here and you want to end the conversation, just tell her you flew in commercially, she will be gone faster than you know it." I guess Delta Delta Delta, can I help ya, help ya, help ya?

That's Aspen for you, it's what it is 🤦‍♀️.

AI in Healthcare: Helpful Sidekick or Chatty Companion?

AI is slowly stepping into the doctor’s office—but maybe not in the way you think. ChatGPT Health is rolling out soon, promising private conversations about your health and even syncing with apps like Apple Health. Sounds futuristic, right? But doctors are reminding us that AI isn’t a magic stethoscope. One surgeon recently discovered a patient relying on ChatGPT advice that misquoted a 45% risk for a medication—turns out it was from a very niche study that didn’t apply at all. Oops.

Despite the hiccups, there’s excitement. AI could save time on the not-so-glamorous side of medicine: administrative work. Stanford’s ChatEHR, for instance, helps doctors navigate patient records faster so they can focus on actual patient care. Anthropic is tackling the same problem with tools to speed up insurance approvals. So while AI chatbots might not be ready to replace your next check-up, they could make your doctor’s day a little less stressful—and maybe shorten your wait time from months to minutes.

At the end of the day, AI in healthcare seems best suited as a trusty sidekick rather than a solo performer. Think less “Dr. ChatGPT” and more “Dr. ChatGPT, at your service—but double-check with your real doctor first!”

100 WEEKS OF POSITIVE MESSAGES

Frankie did 100 days of positive messages 3 years ago. He wanted to center them around mental health and positivity. We will post them each week for 100 weeks.

54/100

I was away with a few friends a couple months ago and I didn't do my daily walk because of the snow on the roads.

Our host said that I shouldn't walk because a car may hit me, poor visibility and there were no sidewalks where we were.

By the 3rd day I started to feel myself getting really really cranky.

I'm not typically a treadmill kinda guy but on the 4th day I took the plunge and hit the treadmill for an hour session.

You know what?

I felt like a million bucks right after that walk. Even the good old treadmill can do it for you.

While I love the outdoor walks the treadmill can also do the trick.

My EarPods are always full of great 80s tunes and if you follow my insta stories, I think you'll be able gauge my preference towards the Lionel Richie style.

Here are some of my favourites that I use during my walks and that can be added during the odd impromptu dance partay. These are great for dancing all night long, if you know what I mean.

Lionel Richie - Dancing on the ceiling

Howard Jones - Everlasting love

Bryan Ferry - Slave to love

Whitney Houston - I Wanna dance with somebody

Kook and the gang - Joanna

Eight seconds - Kiss you

Modern talking - Brother Louie

Boy meets girl - Waiting for a star to fall

Christopher cross - Sailing

Benny Mardones - Into the night

Peter Cetera - One good woman

What are some of your favourite 80s hits?

🧠A Weekly Dose of Psychology You Didn’t Know You Needed 🧠

Hi everyone! I’m Maya, I hold an Honours Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science and Psychology (basically, I can analyze both a crime scene and your overly complicated coffee order). I’m also an incoming Master of Arts candidate in Counselling Psychology, which means I spend a lot of time thinking about how the human brain works, and why it sometimes does the exact opposite of what we want it to do.

Psych Fact #30: Making decisions actually tires your brain faster than physical exercise.

Ever notice how by the end of a long day of choices — what to eat, which email to reply to, which route to take — you feel mentally exhausted? That’s called decision fatigue, and it’s real. The prefrontal cortex, which handles reasoning and planning, uses a lot of energy with every choice, big or small.

Interestingly, studies show that decision fatigue can lead to:
• Impulsive decisions
• Procrastination
• Reduced self-control

The good news? You can work with your brain, not against it. Streamline small decisions: pick your outfits ahead of time, plan meals, or create routines for recurring tasks. That frees up mental energy for the decisions that really matter — like whether to say yes to that new opportunity or finally tackle that creative project.

So the next time you feel drained after a “normal” day, remember: your brain just ran a mental marathon. Give it a break.

Until next time,
Maya 🧠✨
